Folly Beach Benchmarks
What is a benchmark?
A benchmark is a surveyor's mark made on a stationary object of previously determined position and elevation. A Benchmark is used as a reference point in tidal observations and beach surveys. We can use benchmarks to compare beach profiles over time and space to determine if and/or how much change has occurred.
Observe the locations of the following two benchmarks (in green type) and answer the questions below based on your acquired knowledge from the website:
Benchmark 2801 (located at the southern tip of Folly Island, SC) & 2895 (located at the northern tip).
