Join us for the 2008 National Chemistry Week celebration at the College of Charleston!

When: Saturday, October 25, 2008 - 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Where: College of Charleston Science Center (58 Coming Street) - 1st Floor

Who: Open to the public FREE of charge

Join us as we celebrate National Chemistry Week with hands-on activities suitable for students in grades preK-12. Activities are centered on the theme of "Having a Ball with Chemistry" and include:

  • Electrolytes in Sports Drinks
  • Meg A Mole's Bouncing Ball
  • Temperature on Bouncability
  • Let's Break a Sweat
  • Happy/Sad Balls
  • Test Your Reaction Time
  • Hydrophobic Swimsuit
  • Chemical Heat Packs
  • Sunscreens and SPF Ratings
  • Playing with the METS
  • Endurance and Lung Capacity
  • Effects of Chlorine on Germs

National Chemistry Week logo

 

First 100 students to attend will receive a free science toy!
All students to attend will receive a science journal!
(Students must attend with a guardian of legal age.)

 
There will be a Chemistry Magic Show! - Time TBA
 
Educators: Join us to learn new hands-on activities for your classroom!
First 50 educators in attendance will receive a "goodie" bag.
 

Campus Map: The CofC Science Center is located on the corner of George and Coming Streets, downtown Charleston (labeled #46 on campus map). Parking may be available in garages located at George and St Philip Streets ("GG" on campus map), St Philip and Wentworth Streets ("WG" on campus map) , or St Philip Street between Calhoun and Vanderhorst Streets (labeled "PG" on campus map).

This event is a collaboration of efforts by the College of Charleston's Department of Chemistry, Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma Chemistry Fraternity, and Lowcountry Hall of Science and Math. Funding is supported by the Lowcountry Hall of Science and Math and by an educational grant to the College of Charleston from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
