DON BURKARD joined the Office of the Provost in April, 2004 as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Planning. He serves as the university’s chief enrollment strategist and maintains responsibility for developing, facilitating and marketing a university-wide enrollment plan that supports the College of Charleston’s focus on achieving national preeminence. Don Burkard plays a critical role in the development of predictive enrollment models and assessing their impact on institutional resources. He also currently provides vision and leadership for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Adult Student Services and the Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs. Prior to joining the Provost Office, Don served as Dean of Admissions at the College of Charleston from August 1986 until April 2004, during which time the undergraduate enrollments doubled and the academic profile of the student body elevated to national recognition. The College of Charleston received three Noel - Levitz National Retention Excellence Awards during this same period.

Don Burkard’s previous higher educational experience before coming to the College of Charleston in 1986 includes Director of Admissions and Institutional Aid at St. Bonaventure University from 1974-86 and Associate Director of Admissions and Transfer Coordinator from 1972-74. In 1974 he held the distinction as the youngest Director of Admissions in the U.S. at age 24. He received a B.A. degree in Psychology and M.S. degree in Counseling and Personnel from St. Bonaventure University as well as certification in Community Mental Health. He has completed courses toward his Ph.D. in Higher Education at State University of New York at Buffalo.
