Arts Management is an academic field of study as well as a career path for those interested in supporting the work of performing, visual and media artists. Arts managers learn a broad range of management and administrative skills, and apply those skills in their work with artists and arts institutions.

ARTM graduates
ARTM graduates (lft to rgt) Charlie Houck, Ginger Vallen interned with the Office of Cultural Affairs in Spring 2005. ARTM grads Laura Amerson, Cat Heitz and Erika Adelsbach all work for the organization.

The curriculum for Arts Management includes studies in strategic planning, fund raising, grantwriting, programming, special event planning, audience development, volunteerism, board development, financial management and arts policy.

The program has a close relationship with the School of Business and Economics. Through this alliance, students are provided with a strong foundation in business law, accounting and economics.

Who should consider the major or minor? Students who are interested in Art History, Studio Art, Theatre, Dance and Music who wish to combine work in an artistic discipline with management and administrative skills are good candidates. Also artists who wish to combine their artistic work with management and administrative skills. Additionally students interested in Business, Economics, and Communications who wish to broaden their career choices may be interested in a minor or double major.
