Required Student Internship Reporting Document #1

 

Due Date: Weekly Beginning the week of your internship.
Submit entries to Director by email.

You must document the hours worked, and tasks completed throughout your internship. In addition, following the outline below, respond to the questions listed for each journal entry. Also enter notations about any problems you may be encountering. Submit your entries to your Internship Director by email. Make sure you print a copy of each journal entry to keep for your own records. All journal entries will be kept confidential. (If your internship does not follow the normal semester schedule, your internship director will make revisions to the following schedule of entries.)

Entry #1 (Week 1) Describe what you'll be doing in this internship. What do you specifically want to achieve from this internship (work experience, personal satisfaction, increased knowledge, career information, etc.)? What is it about this career field that interests you?

Entry #2 (Week 2) What aspects of this internship placement are exciting to you? What aspects make you feel anxious? What type of orientation has your supervisor provided?

Entry #3 (Week 3) Describe your duties this week. Describe your internship site in detail: location, surroundings, client base, staff structure, organizational chart.

Entry #4 (Week 4) So far, is your internship placement what you thought it would be? Why or why not? Have you encountered any problems that haven't been resolved?

Entry #5 (Week 5) What accomplishments are you most proud of to date? In what areas have you experienced disappointment, and why? Do you feel integrated into the workplace and independent in performing your duties, or do you feel like you're still learning basic information? Explain.

Entry #6 (Week 6) What decisions are you making about this career field? Do you see yourself in this career? Why or why not?

Entry #7 (Week 7) What effect have you had at your organization so far? What have you learned about yourself or about this career field that you didn't know before? Elaborate.

Entry #8 (Week 8) What have you learned about professional behavior through observation in the workplace? What professional behaviors can you identify in your supervisor?

Entry #9 (Week 9) What causes the most stress for you in this internship? How have you handled this stress? What other ways could you cope with stress in the workplace?

Entry #10 (Week 10) Do you feel you have reached most of the objectives you set for yourself in your learning contract? Explain. What can you do to help increase the probability of meeting all your objectives?

Entry #11 (Week 11) How do you feel about the impending end of your internship in the next few weeks? How will you say goodbye?

Entry #12 (Week 12) Use your final journal entry as a chance to summarize your internship experience. To prepare for this, read back through your previous journal entries. How have you changed since the beginning of your internship? How have your job responsibilities changed? Has your experience altered or reinforced your career goals? How?
