Cougar Card Overview

The Cougar Card is the official College of Charleston identification card issued to members of the College community. Students use the card to:

  • Access the dining plan and dining dollars account in campus locations
  • Check out library materials and purchase printing and photocopy services
  • Access campus recreation services
  • Attend CofC sporting events free of charge
  • Swipe to enter assigned residence hall
  • Obtain a free pass to ride Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) buses
  • Use as a personal debit card to access funds in a Cougar Cash Account

Cougar Cash

The Cougar Cash account allows students to draw on pre-deposited funds to purchase products and services on campus. The Cougar Cash is accepted at:

Depositing Cougar Online

You can pay with a credit card or E-check at http://cougartrail.cofc.edu.

A student may set up authorized users to view, pay their account and make Cougar Cash deposits for the E-Bill/My Account screen of Cougar Trail. An automated message will be sent informing the authorized user that access has been granted to online billing information. A separate login ID and PIN/password will be issued to the authorized user in this message. The user will be required to change the password when logging in for the first time.

Deposits made to Cougar cash via a credit card are not subject to a convenience fee. A minimum deposit of $50.00 is required via Cougar Trail. Funds will be available for the student to use within two hours.

  1. Log in using your ID and PIN.
  2. Under the Treasurer caption, select Account Summary and Payment Options
  3. Scroll down to Cougar Cash Account
  4. Select your preferred form of payment. Cougar Cash deposits made via credit card are not subject to a convenience fee.

Depositing Cougar Cash By Mail

You can pay with a check or money order to Treasurer’s Office, College of Charleston, 66 George St., Charleston, SC 29424. Please mark the item with the student’s name and Cougar Cash.

Depositing Cougar Cash In Person

Treasurer’s Office - 170 Calhoun St. Mon.-Fri., 8:30a.m.-5:00p.m. Deposits may be made using cash, check, and money order, Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card or American Express. Funds will be active approximately two hours after the deposit is made. Minimum deposit $10.00

Cougar Card Services - 162 Calhoun St., Mon.-Fri., 8:30a.m. -5:00p.m. Deposits may be made using cash, check, and money order, Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card or American Express. Funds will be active immediately. Minimum deposit $10.00.

The College of Charleston is prohibited by law from performing banking transactions and therefore cannot make full or partial refunds to students still enrolled in school. Cash may not be withdrawn from the Cougar Cash Account and the card will not function as an ATM card. Deposits to Cougar Cash are not accepted over the telephone or by fax.

Cougar Cash Account Closure

The Cougar Cash Account will be closed if the cardholder ceases to be a student at the College of Charleston. Cougar Card Services will refund the account balance after receipt of a written request from students who are graduating, taking a leave of absence or withdrawing from the College. No refunds will be issued for account balances of $10.00 or less. The College of Charleston reserves the right to close any account that is inactive for eighteen months or more. Balances in accounts that are inactive for more than eighteen months will be re-claimed.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is designed to protect the confidentiality of the records that educational institutions maintain on their students and to give the students access to their records to assure the accuracy of their contents. Cougar Card Services is unable to share specific information regarding a student account with anyone other than the student.
