ABOUT JOAN MACK

Joan Mack came to the College of Charleston in 1985 from WCBD-TV Channel 2 where she worked as an award-winning reporter from 1977 to 1984. She co-anchored the station's 6:30 p.m. newscast with Tom Allen from 1981 to 1983. Mack spent the early years of her broadcast career at WCSC-TV Channel 5 where she was Public Service Director. While there, she hosted and co-produced a live daily morning talk show and taped a weekly show in the early 70's called "Black Showcase."

Mack is listed in Who's Who Among Outstanding Black Americans and the 1981 edition of Personalities of the South. Her many awards include a prestigious Southern Regional Emmy Award from the Atlanta Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She was Associate Producer on the award-winning production team for "Where Do We Go From Here?" The documentary, produced in 2001, was chosen for Outstanding Achievement; Television Program Excellence in the Education Program category.

Mack has also won three School Bell Awards from the South Carolina Department of Education for outstanding reports on education, a South Carolina Commission on Women Broadcast Award, an International Television Association Silver Reel Award.
