The Charleston 40 is the official student tour guide organization on the College of Charleston campus. We were formed in 1980 and have since given students and parents alike informative tours on admissions, academics, student life, and the history of this fine institution. The name Charleston 40 comes from the original number of members in the organization. The forty students were considered “the best of the best” at the College, and now we have 53 current members (notice the best of the best keeps growing!). To be a member of the Charleston 40, students most go through an intensive two-step interview process to ensure that we maintain our reputation. It’s easy to find great students and we’re always looking for great guides.
Today, our 53 members are studying anything from Historic Preservation & Community Planning to Hospitality & Tourism Management. The number of programs we are involved in is as diverse as the College. Our tour guides also come from a range of backgrounds and are involved in a number of other organizations on campus from Greek life to the Student Government Association and also the Honors College.
