Jeannie Bunton

International Center for Research on Women (ICRW)

Jeannie Bunton is Vice President of the External Relations Group for the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), a global think tank (headquartered in Washington, D.C., with an Asia Regional Office in New Delhi, India and project offices in Secunderabad, India and Kampala, Uganda) dedicated to improving the lives of women in developing countries.   In this role, she oversees ICRW’s communications, advocacy, and library sciences divisions and collaborates on with message development for its private fundraising initiatives.  She also serves as a member of the foundation’s management team.

She formerly was Vice President of Strategic Communications at the Securities industry and Financial Markets, Wall Street’s trade association, where she prepared and executed long-term, integrated media and outreach strategies to raise awareness of SIFMA and the Foundation for Investor Education, its non-profit affiliate, financial education resources.  

Prior to joining SIFMA, she was a senior counselor at Policy Impact, a public relations and lobbying firm, where she headed its non-profit practice serving clients, drawing on her extensive background as a journalist, speechwriter and spokeswoman for a national, Washington-based nonprofit organization.

Before joining Policy Impact, Jeannie was Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the entity created by Congress to oversee the annual federal appropriation to the nation’s public radio and television stations.

Prior to CPB, Jeannie served as a White House aide to President George H.W. Bush in the Office of Media Affairs and the Office of Presidential Speechwriting. She first came to Washington as a legislative assistant to Rep. Arthur Ravenel Jr. (R-SC). Before leaving South Carolina, Jeannie and two partners founded a weekly newspaper, The Bluffton Eccentric, where she served for four years as editor.

Jeannie has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in public communications, writing and public speaking at the American University School of Communications in Washington. She graduated with honors (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of South Carolina. She holds a masters in communication from the American University.
