Department of Communication Advisory Council Elects New Members The College of Charleston Department of Communication Advisory Council recently participated in a series of on-campus events at the College that collectively reached more than 600 Communication majors and other students. The Council meets on campus twice a year and Council members also serve as mentors for Communication majors. During the two-day visit, Council members lectured in 17 classes, conducted two student roundtables on career choices and led a student forum focusing on the communication lessons learned from the recent Presidential election. During the visit, the Council also elected three new members. The newly-elected Council members are: • David Campbell: President and COO of Chernoff Newman, one of the top full-service advertising, public relations and marketing communications firms in the Southeast, where he oversees day-to-day operations of the firm in Columbia, S.C. and its branch offices in Charleston, Pawleys Island and Orlando, Fla. With a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Mississippi State University, a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University and more than 20 years experience in the financial industry, Campbell successfully negotiated and integrated the merger between Chernoff/Silver and Newman Saylor & Gregory, two of the largest integrated communications agencies in South Carolina, as well as the later acquisition of ASA in Charleston, S.C. In addition to Campbell’s wealth of experience in marketing and advertising, he also lends his financial services expertise to clients in the form of strategic consulting. • Hayes Roth: Chief Marketing Officer for Landor Associates, a global corporate identity and branding firm with principal offices in New York and San Francisco. Roth is responsible for directing all marketing and new business development efforts for Landor worldwide, as well as serving as senior manager on major global branding projects. Prior to joining Landor in 1995, Roth was founder and principal of his own multi-disciplined marketing services company, Roth Marketing Communications Inc., where his clients included The Perrier Group, Price Waterhouse LLP, T. Rowe Price and Prudential Securities. He holds a BA from the University of Miami, is a frequent lecturer at leading business schools including Cornell, Columbia University, Dartmouth and the Capital University of Beijing, as well as marketing conferences around the world, including the Economist Marketing Forums in New York, Shanghai and Dubai. As a key spokesperson for Landor, Roth regularly provides expert commentary on a range of industry related subjects for CNN, CNBC, ABC, Bloomberg TV and Radio, PBS and Fox Business News as well as The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, The New York Times, Business Week, B to B, AdWeek, BrandWeek, AdAge, Marketing News and USA Today. • Judy DeRango Wicks, APR: Vice President of Corporate Communications for Fiserv (NASDAQ: FISV), the leading global provider of financial services technology solutions. In this role, Wicks oversees media relations, and corporate and executive visibility worldwide including the company’s speaker’s bureau. Previously, Wicks was Vice President of Ketchum Crescent, Atlanta, where she oversaw the IBM Software Group account as the agency supported IBM’s evolution to an e-business, business partner, and global alliance focus from 1993 - 1999. Wicks is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, past president of PRSA’s Gulfstream chapter, and has served on SourceMedia’s American Banker Technology Advisor Board. Wicks holds a Master of Journalism and Communications degree from the University of Florida, major in advertising, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Stetson University. The Department of Communication Advisory Council promotes the recognition and progress of communication instruction at the College of Charleston. The Advisory Council is made up of an outstanding and nationally prominent group of communication professionals who aid the Department of Communication in developing curricula, creating and improving departmental programs, and calling attention to the many accomplishments of the department's students and faculty. |
