Faculty Changes in the Department

The Department of Communication announces four changes in the full-time faculty for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Dr. David Parisi will join the department in August 2009 as Assistant Professor of Communication. Dr. Parisi earned his doctoral degree in media, culture, and communication from New York University in 2008. He also has undergraduate and graduate degrees in political science.

Dr. Parisi was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rutgers University for 2008-2009, where he worked in Rutgers's Center for Cultural Analysis.

Dr. Parisi specializes in emerging media, focusing in particular on interface technologies, including those developed and being developed as game interfaces or for mobile communications. His research on communication emphasizes tactility, or touch, along with the description of touch in advertising and other cultural artifacts.

Dr. David Moscowitz, previously a Visiting Assistant Professor, will return to the department in 2009-2010 as Assistant Professor of Communication. Dr. Moscowitz specializes in argumentation, rhetoric, and Jewish identity. His work is described in more detail in the faculty section of the department’s Web site.

“We are delighted that Dr. Parisi will be joining our faculty and that Dr. Moscowitz will be with us as a tenure-track faculty colleague," said Brian McGee, chair of the department. “These gifted scholars will make a tremendous addition to an already outstanding program.”

In other faculty news, Anne Fox, Senior Instructor of Communication, will retire during August 2009 after 16 years of teaching at the College of Charleston. Ms. Fox will continue to teach at the College. Her retirement and distinguished service to the College were recognized at the department’s awards banquet in April.

Dr. Brian McGee has been promoted to full Professor of Communication, effective August 2009. He continues to serve as Department Chair.
