Breast Cancer Awareness Advocate to Speak at College of Charleston Breast cancer awareness advocate and communication executive Leigh Hurst will be speaking on the College of Charleston campus on October 1, 2009, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Hurst is the Founder and President of the Feel Your Boobies Foundation. She will be speaking in the Admissions Auditorium located in the Robert Scott Smalls building on the College of Charleston campus. Hurst will be sharing her story about her non-profit organization as well as her own battle against cancer. Leigh Hurst began the foundation after learning she had breast cancer in 2004. She spent two years in recovery. As a result decided to do something to insure other women will be able to catch cancer by checking themselves like she did. During her presentation at the college, Hurst will cover topics such as the role of social media and other challenges she has encountered while being President and Founder of her foundation. The Feel Your Boobies Foundation goal is to remind women to “feel their boobies” daily by using the catchy phrase on t-shirts, billboards, and coasters. The Foundation is in its fifth year and uses an unconventional message to catch the eyes and ears of young women. They have created an international annual reminder campaign which runs from October 9th-16th this year. This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Communication and the Women's and Gender Studies Program.
