Ferguson Wins Top Paper Award; Graduate Students Also Take Honors Dr. Doug Ferguson and his co-author, Dr. Clark Greer of Point Loma Nazarene University, have won their second consecutive top paper award in the Radio-Audio Media Division of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) for 2008. Dr. Michael Reardon, also of the College of Charleston, was a co-author of the award-winning paper in 2007. Carolyn Lagarenne took top paper (debut category) in the Management and Sales Division of BEA. Two of her fellow master's students, Laura Crosswell and Athena Grayson, also had competitive papers accepted for presentation at the national BEA conference slated this April in Las Vegas. “We congratulate Doug Ferguson on yet another award in his distinguished career,” said Brian McGee, chair of the Department of Communication. "We are equally proud of the three graduate students who had papers accepted at BEA, including a first-place award." Ferguson has been at the College of Charleston since 1999, where he has served as founding chair of the Department of Communication and as founding director of the department’s graduate program. The three students presenting at BEA wrote their papers as a class assignment for his graduate-level media management course in 2007. Lagarenne joined the graduate program in 2004 pursuing a certificate in organizational communication, which she received in 2006. She was admitted into the communication master's program in 2007 and expects to graduate in 2008. List of student competitive paper results
