Frandino Wins Mundy Scholarship

Nathan Frandino, a junior communication major in the media studies concentration, has won the Mundy Scholarship from the South Carolina Press Association Foundation.

Mundy Scholars are reserved for the most promising of young journalists in South Carolina. Frandino was the unanimous choice for the award, according to his award letter.

Frandino is the eighteenth student to be designated a Mundy Scholar. The scholarship is named for R. Frank Mundy, the late publisher of the Greenwood Index-Journal and the first president of the SCPA Foundation.

“We congratulate Nathan Frandino on this impressive accomplishment,” said Brian McGee, chair of the Department of Communication. “Nathan is a tremendously dedicated student journalist. We expect great things from him.”

In addition to his strong academic record, Frandino was Editor-in-Chief of the George Street Observer, the student newspaper for the College of Charleston, during the 2008-2009 academic year.
