158 undergraduate communication majors have been named to the Department of Communication Honor Roll for the 2009 Spring Semester. Students qualify for the honor roll when they are communication majors enrolled for 12 or more credit hours and earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher. For the 2008-2009 academic year, 76 communication majors were named to the honor roll for both the fall and spring semesters. These students will receive a certificate recognizing their academic achievements for the year. Honor roll certificates are written in Latin, in honor of the classical tradition of the College of Charleston and the study of rhetoric and communication in the liberal arts. William Mason, the first communication professor at the College of Charleston, was a member of the original College faculty in 1789. “We congratulate these undergraduates for their academic accomplishments,” said Brian McGee, chair of the Department of Communication. “These students richly deserve recognition for their good work.” The students who earned honor roll status over the past two semesters came from every region of South Carolina, from the District of Columbia, and from 20 other states: Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. |
