| College of Charleston PRSSA Chapter wins national award
Battle of the Bands Entry Information January 11, 2006
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has received the prestigious Chapter Development Award by The Champions For PRSSA, the informal, independent organization composed of professionals with a special interest in this national organization. The award includes a check for $300 and a personalized plaque.
“This honor is a tribute to the efforts of our students, who take the profession of public relations seriously and want to make a mark on campus and in the community,” said Dr. Vince Benigni, faculty adviser for the College of Charleston chapter.
The award category was open to chapters with fewer than 20 members or chapters that have had a PRSSA charter for fewer than three years. The judges based their decision on the exceptional effort and creativity displayed by the College of Charleston chapter in numerous activities including: chapter newsletters, membership drives, fundraisers, relationships with PRSA chapters and members, public relations publications, and overall membership involvement.
The College of Charleston was granted a PRSSA charter in January 2003 and is one of only two chapters in South Carolina. Since its creation, the College of Charleston PRSSA chapter has grown and developed rapidly. The club is active on campus and the officers and members plan and execute numerous activities and fund raising events. The most successful and innovative event is the annual Charleston Battle of the Bands competition, one of the city’s signature entertainment functions.
