Laura Mixon joined the Department of Communication in 2009. She earned her doctoral degree in communication at Regent University, her M.B.A. at the University of Dallas, and her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and economics at Sweet Briar College. Dr. Mixon worked previously at East Carolina University before coming to Charleston.

Dr. Mixon has special expertise in intercultural communication. Before beginning her academic career, she worked in banking and economic journalism for several years in Caracas, Venezuela.
