Bio David Parisi joined the Department of Communication in 2009. Prior to coming to the College of Charleston, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Rutgers University’s Center for Cultural Analysis, where his work centered on the emergence of new media literacies. Dr. Parisi earned his doctoral degree in media, culture, and communication at New York University. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees in political science from the University at Albany. Dr. Parisi’s scholarship engages the design, deployment, marketing, and history of emerging media forms, focusing in particular on interface technologies and the social relations they structure. His research emphasizes the increased role of tactility in information interfaces. He has had a top paper award from the Media Ecology Association. Dr. Parisi teaches courses in media criticism and emerging media. For example, his courses have allowed students to do research on Second Life, The Sims Online, and World of Warcraft. |
