Faculty
Bio Greg Schmitt has been a cornerstone in educating students at the College of Charleston for over two decades. He has taught a variety of courses, mostly with the Media Studies concentration. Presently, he teaches Feature Writing (COMM 322), Editing (COMM 375), Mass Media (COMM 214) and both introductory and advanced photojournalism and documentary photography courses (COMM 285, 385). Professor Schmitt has been highly involved in both professional and service activities throughout his stint at the College, most recently as a reviewer for several communication textbooks and a judge at various photo and essay competitions. In recent years he had a photographic exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and exhibited at the International Juried Show of the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. He has served on various departmental committees during his career. A master's graduate of the University of Missouri in 1974 in journalism, Schmitt received his bachelor's from Central Washington State College in 1968. Prior to coming to the College, he was the Air Force Reserve's command photojournalist. He possesses significant experience in the fields of print journalism and photojournalism and has supervised a number of highly successful internships and independent studies at the College of Charleston. |
