Entertaining at the College of Charleston - by Zoe Sanders

Zoe Sanders, wife of ex-CofC President Alex Sanders, has authored Entertaining at the College of Charleston, a cookbook to raise funds for student scholarships.

This beautiful hardbound book will be a great addition to your book collection for the kitchen or coffee table.

Mrs. Sanders has used pictures, text, menus, and recipes to share with us her gracious and elegant style of entertaining. She has used photographs of the historical and extraordinary 1770 College campus as well as of Charleston harbor, Dixie Plantation, Remley's Point, and Storybook Farm as settings to enhance her goal for "the College to live up to Charleston's fine and rich culinary heritage of entertaining."

Most of the recipes are intended for six to eight people; but for those who enjoy cooking for the multitudes, some recipes are adapted to serve from 30 to 200!

The book is available

Alex and Zoe Sanders

Zoe Dutrow Sanders developed her skill for preparing menus and recipes by the seasons when she worked as a kitchen coordinator in Columbia, SC for her church, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, and later at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. She organized church events (including meals and receptions) and coordinated church volunteers as they prepared and served meals to some 1200 people each month. Her enthusiasm, creativity, and high energy combined to make her a natural for entertaining when she arrived at the College of Charleston. As the wife of the President of this prestigious College, she works with a professional ARAMARK Catering Staff to complement her own style of graciously entertaining local, national, and international guests at social and academic events in Lowcountry casual and formal settings.

Zoe Sanders has as inimitable a reputation and mystique as a hostess as her husband does as an orator, story teller or judge or educator. Both of them are two of the finest cooks I have ever met in my life, and I have eaten like a deposed Italian king when I've found myself a lucky guest in their house.

For those of you who have dined at a College feast, this book will be a chance both to remember and to recreate some of the magic. For those who have not, it's a way to share the special sorcery of a place that is like no other on earth.
- Anne Rivers Siddons

This book shows the beauty of the College of Charleston with its historic scenes and ambiance and gives glimpses of yesterday with the foods of today in grand menus and recipes. The bountiful details of Zoe Sanders' style of entertaining make her one of the outstanding hostesses of the South, with her elegance, warmth and exuberance.
