- Thom Rubel and Scott Palladino
Summary
Rubel and Palladino’s paper, produced by the National Governor’s Association, examines differences between entrepreneurial firms and small businesses. The author’s argue that in order to improve competitiveness, states should develop policies that nurture entrepreneurs. Programs such as those directed toward improved access to capital, streamlining securities regulations, and building intellectual capacity at universities are advocated. "International Entrepreneurship: The Current Status of the Field and Future Research Agenda"
- Shaker A. Zahra, and Gerard George
In M. Hitt, D. Ireland, D. Sexton & M. Camp. Strategic Entrepreneurship: Creating an Integrated Mindset, pp. 255-288, Strategic Management Series, Blackwell Publishers, Oxford (2002) (S. Zahra & G. George)
Summary
Following the growing trend of globalization, Zahra and George assess the current status of the newly emerging field of international entrepreneurship. The paper differentiates the international entrepreneurship activities of new and established firms, examines influencing factors, and offers a framework for future studies. The authors note that despite growing interest in the topic, “little is known about the process, context, and outcomes of internationalization.” Once believed to include only firms with well-developed domestic businesses, the authors suggest that some new firms begin with an international strategy from their inception.
