First-Year Experience faculty:
First of all, thank you for your participation in the FYE program, and your willingness to help our first-year students as they learn the academic skills they'll need to succeed and adjust to life in college. Whether you're teaching in a Learning Community and have the assistance of Peer Facilitators, or teaching a First-Year Seminar and incorporating all the "University 101" material on your own, you're helping us to give students the best possible head start on their academic career.
The resources accessible from this page are designed to assist you as you prepare for and teach your First-Year Experience class. Some of the resources are demographic in nature - presenting information about the College of Charleston and its first-year students. Others are logistical - forms and information you'll need in order to get things done as you go through the semester. Finally, there are pedagogical resources - suggestions for ways to connect with your first-year students and communicate those "intro to college" concepts we're working on.
Remember there's a listserv just for FYE faculty. Just send a message to
FYEFaculty@listserv.cofc.edu and all current FYE faculty will receive it.
There's also a blog, which will mostly be useful when faculty are searching for a potential Learning Community partner. You can find it at http://blogs.cofc.edu/fye/
Any resources you run across that you think might be helpful to other faculty - please send them along and we'll put them in an appropriate format and add them here. Please let us know about any broken links or other errors.
And don't hesitate to contact us with any problems or questions or suggestions.
