The Last Flapper

Based on the writings of Mrs. F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Last Flapper is a one-woman, two act play by William Luce. This historical drama is about the life of the daring, eccentric and passionate Zelda Fitzgerald. It takes place on March 10, 1948, in Asheville, North Carolina in the office of Zelda's psychiatrist. Audiences will witness her struggle for identification, her battle with schizophrenia, and her search for self-completeness.

Broadway playwright William Luce (1941- ) is the recipient of the Peabody Award, the Christopher Award, and Columbia University's Armstrong Award. His artistic achievements include a series of biographical plays such as Lillian (Lillian Hellman), Lucifer's Child (Isak Dinesen), and The Last Flapper (Zelda Fitzgerald).

Zelda, in the CofC production of The Last Flapper, will be performed by Anne Fox, a professor in the Department of Communication. Ms. Fox has numerous years of performing experience and is the founder and director of COMMSTAGE, the performance area of Communication. Fox will perform The Last Flapper in chamber style, which is theatrical rather than realistic, with limited sets and props.
