Guest Speaker Nancy Milford Milford is the author of two books on women writers of the twenties,
Zelda, about artist Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of writer F.
Scott Fitzgerald, and Savage Beauty, about poet Edna St. Vincent
Millay. Zelda spent twenty-nine weeks on the New York Times
bestseller list and has sold over 1.4 million copies. It was also
a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Savage
Beauty was written as an attempt to resurrect Millay from relative
obscurity and put her back in place as one of the great literary figures
of the past century. Millay was the first woman to win the Pulitzer
Prize. She lived a remarkable life, producing exceptional work, gaining
celebrity, notoriety, and admiration. Milford received exclusive access
to Millay's papers, a remarkable collection that provides a glimpse
into this brilliant free spirit. Milford was a Fulbright Scholar in Turkey in 1999, and an Annenberg Fellow at Brown University. She has taught at the University of Michigan, at Vassar College, at Princeton University, and is presently teaching at Hunter College. She is a founder of the Writers Room, has held a Guggenheim Fellowship, and is a Literary Lion at The New York Public Library. She lives in New York City. TOPIC: Literary Women of the Jazz Age: Zelda Fitzgerald and Edna
St. Vincent Millay.
