Gatsby Day: An Interdisciplinary Panel Discussion of The Great Gatsby

The Panelists:

Dr. Larry Carlson, Professor of English and Chair of the English Department, earned his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. His specialty is American literature, particularly the 19th and 20th centuries. He has taught several courses on the 1920s, including Fitzgerald and Hemingway, The Lost Generation, and (this semester) The Jazz Age.

Dr. Betsy Jane Clary, Professor of Economics, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. Her academic interests are the history of economic thought, financial markets and institutions, and social economics. Apart from academics, Dr. Clary has special interest in traveling to France and Italy.

Dr. George W. Hopkins, Professor of History, received his Ph.D. from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He specializes in 20th-century USA, with an emphasis on social movements as well as urban and labor history. Dr. Hopkins has served as Chair of the Department of History, Director of Urban Studies, and Coordinator of American Studies.

Dr. David S. Mann, Professor of Political Science, holds a Ph.D. from Washington State University. His specialty is American Judiciary, and his interests include law and order, civil liberties, and the nature of justice. He is a pre-law advisor.

Dr. Scott Peeples, Associate Professor of English, holds a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. His specialties are early American literature and American studies, especially the history of publishing and authorship. The author of Edgar Allan Poe Revisited, Professor Peeples is presently coordinator of the American Studies minor.
