Research emphasis: Mammalian lung biochemistry & molecular biology
Current research projects:
- dolphin genomics
- effects of marine-borne toxin exposure on the lung
- adaptations of diving marine mammals (such as bottlenose dolphins, pygmy sperm whales and seals) to repetitive hypoxic conditions while being able to maintain lung health
- establishment of dolphin cell lines for use as biosensors
- structural/function relationships of pulmonary surfactant proteins
