Robin Zemp

Lecturer, Collaborative Piano

Robin Zemp, pianist, made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1984 to both public and critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "intriguing coloristic effects" and "strong, firm, and secure" playing. In constant demand as both soloist and ensemble player, he performed over 30 different programs last season. He has appeared at both Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto.

Other engagements have included the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, and the South Carolina Chamber Orchestra. He recently played an all Chopin recital in France in conjunction with the opening of the College of Charleston's campus in Annot. Winner of the South Carolina Arts Commission's Performing Arts Fellowship, he has toured under the auspices of the Commission and the Southern Arts Federation.

Mr. Zemp is heard frequently on South Carolina Educational Radio and on National Public Radio's "Performance Today."

A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, he studied with Walter Hautzig and earned the B.M. and M.M. degrees in Piano Performance.

His students have won many state and regional competitions and awards. He has served in many capacities with the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and is currently the Immediate Past President.
