Master of Arts in Teaching: Performing Arts
CHORAL MUSIC CONCENTRATION
Admission Criteria
- An undergraduate degree in music, theatre, or dance, or evidence of proficiency
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0
- A GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
- Completion of courses in Human Growth and Development and Arranging
- Demonstrated proficiency in music theory, music history, functional keyboard, and performance
Application Process
- Submit a completed application form with a nonrefundable application fee of $45 to the Graduate School. Applications must be submitted on-line.
- Submit supporting materials:
- official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work
- official scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- two letters of recommendation
- statement of goals
- cover letter to the Admissions Committee describing the applicant’s suitability for and desire to pursue the M.A.T. program and a career in education
- Complete an audition/interview demonstrating the applicant’s performing and/or teaching ability in his/her chosen discipline
- Complete entrance examinations in music theory, music history, functional keyboard, and performance. If a candidate does not meet these proficiencies, provisional admission is possible. The student will be required to take needed coursework to gain the needed competencies. This coursework will not count toward degree completion.
