Piano
The College of Charleston has become a special place for young pianists to study. With a caring and dedicated faculty, with exposure to pianists from around the world on the International Piano Series, and with students from Taiwan, Costa Rica, Spain, Uruguay, Korea, Russia, Cuba, South Carolina and other states, students reap benefits far beyond the normal academic program.

Performances
During their studies at the College, our students have performed as soloists with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Spartanburg Symphony, the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Greenville Symphony and the Charleston Metropolitan Orchestra.
Solo appearances include recitals in Hilton Head, Walterboro, McClellanville, Union; and in Charleston on the Monday Night Concert Series, at Cooper Hall, Ashley Hall, the Annual Drayton Hall Candlelight Concert, First Night Charleston, in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival Young Artists Series at the College of Charleston, the Columbus Day Concert for the Hispano-American Community of Charleston, for the Board of Trustees, the Simons Guild, and other College functions.
Competitions
College of Charleston piano students have won the South Carolina Arts Commission Fellowship in Music; a Charleston Scientific and Cultural Educational Fellowship Grant; Second, Fourth, and five times the First Prize at the Southeastern Community College Competition in North Carolina; First Prize in the Henry Janieck Competition at Converse College; First Prize in the Troccoli National Competition in Montevideo, Uruguay; First Prize in the Concerto Competition of the South Carolina Music Teachers Spring Festival; Prize to the youngest Competitor at the Iturbi International Competition in Valencia, Spain, and First Prize in the Bartok-Kabalevsky International Piano Competition in Virginia.
They have been semi-finalists and finalists at the Maurice Hinson International Competition in Utah, The Stravinsky Awards in Illinois, and the Corpus Christi and Kingsville Competition in Texas, the Princess Cristina National Competition in Spain, and the Hilton Head International Competition.
Graduates
Students who have graduated from the College have continued their studies at the Moscow Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, New England Conservatory, the Manhattan School of Music, the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, University of Texas at Austin, Rutgers, Baylor, and Carnegie Mellon Universities.
International Piano Series
Each season, the International Piano Series at the College of Charleston presents an array of international pianists in recitals and occasional orchestral and chamber music programs. Through the concerts and master classes the artists offer while in Charleston, students are exposed to different approaches of music making, while the Charleston community is provided and inspiring, entertaining, an affordable musical experience.
