The department offers courses in both traditional and newly developed areas of psychological investigation. The department ’s program prepares undergraduate majors for careers in the behavioral sciences and psychology-related fields, for graduate programs in psychology and other professions, and for careers in any field in which a liberal arts and sciences education is useful. An understanding of human behavior is relevant to any occupation or profession that involves interaction with others.

Congratulations to Rick Cleva, the recipient of this year's Outstanding Psychology Student Award! Rick is graduating with a rare combination - a 4.0 GPA both overall and in his major. He speaks fondly of his professors in Psychology who have guided him in coursework, research, and life. Rick has a host of academic honors, is a co-author of several manuscripts with CofC and MUSC professors, and has helped mentor other undergraduate students in behavioral testing and surgical and histological procedures. Rick plans to begin graduate study this fall for a Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience at Arizona State University.
