Location:
Sailing and lectures will take place at the J. Stewart Walker, Jr. Sailing Complex of the College of Charleston. The
complex is located in the Charleston Harbor Marina Resort at Patriots
Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Boats:
The CofC fleet of collegiate 420s and FJs will be
used. Clinic participants will have the opportunity to sail at one of the
best college sailing sites in our
fleet of boats.
Eligibility:
This session will be limited to 24 sailors
total, allowing plenty of individual instruction. Since the number of
participants is limited, application by resumé is required. It is strongly
recommended that sailors apply as skipper/crew pairs. However, those who
need a skipper or crew will be matched. Applicants must be 13 years or
older.
Curriculum:
The focus of this clinic will be to expose
sailors to collegiate-style racing and develop their boat handling skills,
speed, starting, tactics, rules, and much more. They will have the unique
opportunity to sail both 420s and FJs, which most collegiate teams sail,
and be instructed on the similarities and differences of the two classes
by top collegiate coaches and sailors.
Instructors:
The clinic will be coached by the current
sailing coaches of the C of C sailing team. All American sailors Ward
Cromwell and Nick Ewenson, along with other top college sailors.
Food/Housing:
Breakfast and dinner will be provided at
the college cafeteria and lunches will be brought to the sailing center.
Sailors will stay in air conditioned dorms on the historic CofC campus in
downtown Charleston. Instructors will be in the dorms. All local
transportation is provided and mandatory. Evening activities are included
for those who stay in the dorms.
Registration/Fees: $750 per sailor
A deposit of $300 is required for registrations made before
April 1, 2009 with the remaining balance due April 15, 2009. Registrations
made after April 1, 2009 will require full payment within 7 days of
