Position Opening: Scene Designer


 

Founded in 1770 and the thirteenth oldest institution of higher education in the nation, the College of Charleston is a public Liberal Arts and Sciences university located on a scenic campus in the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina. The College offers more than 50 degree programs to approximately 10,000 undergraduate and 1,700 graduate students, drawing these students from fifty states and seventy-five countries.  The Department of Theatre offers a BA degree with tracks in Performance, Costume Design, Scenic/Lighting Design, Theatre for Youth, and General Theatre.  

This is a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank and is scheduled to begin fall semester 2010.  Responsibilities will include teaching courses such as Scene Design, Drafting and Rendering for the Theatre, Intro to Theatre and/or other design courses, designing two or more productions annually, advising students, leading and mentoring scenic/lighting design track, supervising properties for departmental productions, College committee service and active scholarly/professional development.  A full time technical director and a part-time assistant technical director support this position.  Qualifications: an MFA in Scene Design required. Prior undergraduate teaching and/or professional experience preferred.  Successful candidates will possess strong and effective teaching, organizational, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
