Todd McNerney (BA - Theatre, St. John's University {MN}; MFA - Acting, University of Iowa ) is an Associate Professor in performance and chair of the department. He teaches Acting I, Acting II, and Voice for the Actor. He is an active member of the department's production program, directing productions of The House of Blue Leaves, On the Verge, The Caucasion Chalk Circle, and Take Me Out, among others. He is also a co-founder of The Shakespeare Project, a summer component of the department, which produces two productions of Shakepeare's works each year. Shows he has directed for the Project include The Merchant of Venice (2000), Richard II (2002) and King Lear (2006).

Todd spent three years touring with the Swiss mime troupe Mummenschanz . In addition to the wonderful experiences of world travel, he developed a passion for the business side of the arts. In order to satisfy that passion he served as the Piccolo Spoleto Theatre Series Coordinator. Piccolo Spoleto is the City of Charleston's official outreach program of the Spoleto USA Festival.
