Welcome to
the Interdisciplinary Program in Archaeology!
Who: The
Interdisciplinary Minor Program in Archaeology is composed of people
and classes from almost every school in the College!
What: Designed to maximize your
exposure to the many potential areas of Archaeology, the minor
requirements include courses from the School of Humanities and Social
Sciences, the School of Science and Mathematics, the School of the
Arts, and the the School of Languages Cultures and World Affairs.
In addition to providing you with a strong, interdisciplinary
background in Archaeology, these requirements also count towards many
of your GenEd requirements as
well. Archaeology Minors also are required to do either an
internship and coursework or, strongly encouraged, a Field School of
their choosing.
Field School? Field School is
usually at least 5 weeks of practical Archaeological field work in your
area of interest. The College offers two field school
opportunities, one held every other year in the local area and one held
in Turkey. However, if your area of interest lies outside these
options we encourage you (and will help you) find other
opportunities. In the past we have had students attend field
schools in Mortuary Archaeology in Poland, Underwater Archaeology in
France, Cave Archaeology in Belize. . . . and many, many more!
What can I do with an Archaeology Minor?
Graduates of the the Archaeology minor at the College of Charleston
have gone on to some of the top rated graduate schools in the country,
to law schools, to work at National Parks, to work for state and local
governments, and to work for consulting firms.
Why Minor in Archaeology?
Because it
helps create a cohesive GenEd?
Because it gives you a great experience you will remember for the rest
of your life?
Because it looks great on a resume and sets you apart from all the
other applicants?
Because the classes and professors are the best on campus?
. . .
Yes.
But most of all because it makes you grin! Do what you love!
