If You Are Sexually Assaulted
National statistics indicate that sexual assault is, for many, a part of the college experience. While we strongly encourage victims of sexual assault to report the crime, the decision to file a report and undergo a rape evidence collection exam (also known as a rape protocol exam) is the choice of the victim. The options for a victim of sexual assault are as varied as the individuals who must make the decision. No matter which option or combination of options you choose, there is help available to meet your needs, answer questions, locate resources and to offer support.
If You Are Sexually Assaulted
- Consider reporting the assault to the police.
- Preserve all physical evidence of the assault. Do not bathe, use the restroom, brush your teeth, eat, douche, change your clothes or disturb the crime scene.
- Seek medical attention whether you choose to file a report or not.
