- A list of alternative courses for the math/logic and foreign language requirements is available through SNAP for students approved for alternative courses. If the alternative course is not a reasonable accommodation for the student's particular disability or involves skills which are affected by another disability, the student may apply for additional accommodation via other alternatives. SNAP personnel will recommend other alternatives or accommodations subject to the approval of the Academic Standards Committee.
- Courses that are approved as alternatives for SNAP students often have higher concentrations of students with learning disabilities than courses not on the alternative list. To assist instructors of these courses, as well as any interested faculty, SNAP Services provides a website, a Faculty Guide to SNAP Services, periodic faculty seminars, and individual consultation upon request. The website, Faculty Guide, and seminars:
- Provide information on laws affecting students with disabilities.
- Describe the various types of disabilities.
- Explain reasonable accommodation.
- Describe the College of Charleston's procedures for accommodating students with disabilities.
- Suggest effective strategies for teaching students with disabilities.
- No course taken as an alternative to any requirement may be used
to fulfill any other general education requirement nor may it be used
to satisfy a major or minor requirement except with the approval of
the major or minor department.
