I am a Research
Associate and the lab manager for the DustanLab. Amidst
just keeping the place running smoothly, my work includes
serving as an underwater videographer and image
processor/analyst for the the US EPA Coral Reef Monitoring
Project (CRMP), a field biologist and remote sensing technician
for our research on detecting change of coral reefs from space,
and graphic designer/editor for projects such as the James
Island/Folly Beach, SC-1939 aerial image poster (in conjunction
with the SC Coastal Conservation League-SCCCL) as well as all of
our other publication and presentation materials.
Currently, I am also working on another
poster with the SCCCL depicting the East Cooper Area of
Charleston County in a mosaic of aerial photos from 1941;
foraging ahead with the CRMP both in the field, shooting video,
and in the lab, developing improved digital image technology;
and updating our website.
My background has been predominantly in
environmental education. I spent a number of years as
Senior Field Instructor and Assistant Director of Underwater
Habitat Operations for the MarineLab program at the Marine
Resources Development Foundation in Key Largo, FL. While
there, I taught tropical/subtropical coastal marine ecology as
pertaining to the coral reef, mangrove, and seagrass
environments found in the Florida Keys, simple astronomy,
underwater habitat technology, and basic marine archaeology to
groups ranging in age from preschool to senior citizen.
