Chapter 13 Unsaturated Hydrocarbons

13.1 Alkenes and Alkynes
unsaturated: have fewer hydrogen atoms than corresponding alkane as they have one or more multiple bonds
alkene - contain at least one C=C
alkyne- contain at least one C=C
sigma (s) and pi (p) bonds

13.2 Naming Alkenes and Alkynes

Name the longest continuous chain that contains the double or triple bond(s)
Number from the end nearest the double or triple bond.

13.3 Cis-Trans Isomers: cis-2-butene ; trans-2-butene
