Chapter 19 Amines and Amides

SAR-the relationship between the chemical structure of a compound and its biological or pharmacological activity.

Compounds are often classed together because they have structural characteristics in common including:
      shape
      size
      stereochemical arrangement
      and distribution of functional groups
Other factors contributing to structure-activity relationship include:
      chemical reactivity
      electronic effects
      resonance
      and inductive effects.
Rational drug design of drugs is based on the premise that the biological properties of a compound are encoded in its molecular structure.
