DEAVOR'S CHEM 111


What are the prerequisites for this course?
You need to hav ea math competency at least at teh level of being able to take MATH 111.

Do I have to take the lab?
Yes. The corequisite is Chemistry 111L.

Are the lecture and lab averaged together?
No. They are seperate, individual courses. You get one grade for three hours credit for the lecture and a separate grade for one hour credit for the lab.

What if I drop either the lecture or the lab?
The two courses are co-requisites. If you drop either, then you must drop both.

How easy is this course?
If you have had a solid high school experience in chemistry you will probably find much of this course to be a review. However, if you are willing to put in the necessary time and are comforatble with basic algebra you should be able to succeed in this course.

Do I have to come to class?
I expect you at each and every class, on time, and prepared. Please consult my attendance policy.

What if I have an "excused" absense?
Absences are not excused by the undergraduate dean, just verified as to whether you saw a physician, had a family tragedy, etc. You are still responsible for any material covered in class.

What about "make-ups"?
There are no make-ups for quizzes. If you let me know ahead of time it is possible to make-up a test, but you must make contact with me ahead of time. Please keep aware of the Test Schedule.

Do you curve?
No, I do not. Please refer to the Grading Scheme and Grading Scale.  

What about extra credit?
There is no extra credit. There are many quizzes and tests given, so any one poor performance is not devasting.

Do I have to do the homeork?
The assigned homework is for your benefit. It will not be collected or graded. However, quiz and test questions are often drawn from the homework.

Can I exempt the final exam?
Unfortunately, no. Failure to take the final exam will result in the grade of "F for the course.

How should I study for the final exam?

Look over your notes, your old quizzes and tests, and check out info on the final exam web page.
