What is new concerning our focus on GenEd goals:
3. To develop proficiency in information and communication systems.
5. To develop global awareness and appreciation of social and cultural
diversity
6. To enhance affective development and interpretation and appreciation of
affective expression. This statement will be reworked. DIscussion of this
goal revolved around consideration of Howard Gardner's domains of
intelligence. We need to examine his views as we consider Gened Goals and
objectives. We also considered tdhe place of emotions, values and moral
reasoning as well as the experience of expressing and confronting one's
emotions. Additional discussion centered around concerns that math/logic
and science requirements be met in the goals, need for computer literacy,
consideration of the health and physical wellness development of the
student, whether we should be teaching just general survey courses or area
or region specific courses, and problems in making students aware of
cultures other than their own.
