Omicron Delta Epsilon
International Honor Society
 
Omicron Delta Epsilon is the
International Economics Honorary
Society. The most important
objectives of ODE are: the recognition
of outstanding achievements in economics
on the part of economists at all levels;
the establishment of closer ties between
students and faculty both within and among
colleges and universities; the publication of the
official journal, The American Economist; to
emphasize the professional aspects of economics
as a career field for service in the academic world,
business government, and international organizations.
 
Omicron Delta Epsilon is dedicated to the encouragement
of excellence in economics. It encourages devotion on the part
of its members as economists to the advancement of their science
and to the scholarly effort to make freedom from want and privation a reality for all mankind.
 

History
Omicron Delta Epsilon, one of the world’s largest academic honor societies, and was created in 1963 through the merger of two honor societies, Omicron Delta Gamma and Omicron Chi Epsilon. At the time of their merger both societies had 28 chapters. Omicron Delta Gamma’s chapters were primarily in the Midwestern and Pacific states while the chapters of Omicron Chi Epsilon were concentrated at Colleges and Universities along the Eastern Seaboard and in Texas.

Requirements:
Undergraduate candidates for election to membership in any chapter of ODE must have at least an overall scholastic average of 3.0, and at least twelve credits in economics with an average of B or better.

Chapter Information:
Currently, Omicron Delta Epsilon has 578 chapters located in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Egypt, and France.
