Growth and Water Quality: Informational Town Meetings in the Lowcountry.
The
USES (Urbanization and
Southeastern Estuarine Systems) project, in conjunction with the
League of Women Voters, is sponsoring
this town meeting in Charleston to facilitate a dialogue between
Federal, State, and Locally elected officials, USES researchers
and the public.
In
order to convey the importance of estuaries to coastal community
members, this meeting will focus on: what estuaries are; how estuaries
are affected by urban development; what citizens can do to minimize
damage to estuaries. Invited to each town meeting are the appropriate
district and state legislators, citizens living within close proximity
to watersheds and/or coastal waters, and USES scientists to answer
questions.
