The
League of Women Voters of
the Charleston Area and the Natural
Resources Defense Council, along with the College of Charleston
MES Program, the Environmental
Studies Minor, the Department
of Geology and Environmental Geosciences, the Department
of Physics and Astronomy, and the Department
of Political Science will present a discussion about energy issues
facing South Carolina on Wednesday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m. Leading
the discussion will be Deron Lovaas, Vehicles Campaign Director and
Deputy Director for Smart Growth Policy at the Natural Resources Defense
Council.
Impacts
of hurricanes Katrina and Rita have created an increased awareness
of the need to diversify energy sources. Demand for energy is escalating,
prices are rising and the United States is becoming increasingly
dependent on foreign oil, particularly for our transportation system.
The forum will focus on options for diversifying South Carolinas
energy sources, such as alternative fuels and energies, increased
input from existing technologies, and smart growth emphasizing conservation
and energy conservation. The forum is free and open to the community.

will be a great opportunity for faculty, students, friends, family,
and co-workers to join together for lots of fun.
The
MES Oyster Roast uses local oysters, and the oyster shells are donated
