Manages, plans promotes, organizes, and administers specific programs, such as environmental education, community beautification, fund raising, etc, and assigned special projects under established policies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors, employees and volunteers.
Management duties include designing programs, planning, scheduling events, handling registration, recruiting and scheduling staff and volunteers, budgeting, procuring necessary supplies and equipment and working with the appropriate city employees to market the programs to the public.
Serves as Treasurer of “Keep Charleston Beautiful” acts as the contact person and clearinghouse of information on all activities of “Keep Charleston Beautiful” and works with the Director of Public Information to participate in print media interviews, television and radio appearances in order to raise program awareness.
Serves as the Executive Director of “Friends of Keep Charleston Beautiful”, a non profit organization that provides financial support for the functions and activities of “Keep Charleston Beautiful”.
Coordinates “Keep Charleston Beautiful” activities and programs with the affiliated state and national organizations. Recruits and trains board members, individual and group volunteers to assist with educational programs; recognizes and rewards volunteer participation. Initiates and conducts beautification and litter control education. Develops, implements, and manages recycling programs and coordinates community litter prevention activities. Maintains appropriate financial and volunteer records; prepares and monitors annual program budget; submits necessary reports to state national affiliates. Maintains communication with neighborhood groups, and schools in order to promote awareness of city beautification, litter control and general cleanliness. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent; and one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Western Resource Advocates (WRA) seeks a Transmission Planning Analyst within their Energy Program to develop and advocate for policies that accelerate the region's transition to renewable energy and other clean energy technologies. The Analyst will provide technical and economic modeling expertise on the need for new transmission infrastructure in the region to interconnect renewable energy sources. The Analyst will represent WRA in state and regional transmission planning forums and provide analytical expertise for specific transmission proposals in the region. He/she will participate in state public utility commission and other policy forums, and will work directly with the region’s electric utilities, the renewable energy industry, and the environmental community.
Candidates should have excellent quantitative and analytical abilities, strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to work independently. The successful candidate should have two or more years experience in the electricity industry, with particular experience in transmission planning, technical design, modeling and siting issues, and a personal commitment to a cleaner environment and a more sustainable energy future. A degree in economics and/or electrical engineering is highly desirable. Salary and benefits are comparable to regional non-profit organizations and are dependent on experience and qualification.

The Newport Aquarium is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of WAVE Education Program Coordinator. This position serves as the key educator for WAVE youth education programs, which aim to excite, engage and educate students about the wonders of aquatic life and the importance of conservation. Program coordinator is instrumental in the delivery and review of existing programs and development of new programs.
Reports to the Education Curator and works closely with the Executive Director.
The Education Program Coordinator is a part time position with the WAVE Foundation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Responsible for the delivery of WAVE education programs and initiatives. Includes teaching youth education classes, summer camp activities and managing logistics for education programs.
2. Maintain an awareness of industry guidelines pertaining to education programs as set forth by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.
3. Assist WAVE Education Curator with researching, designing, testing and implementing educational programs. Aligning education programs to meet state and national standards.
4. Assist Education Curator in training and preparing new staff positions.
5. Oversee daily classroom/summer camp activities including set up, instruction, clean up and supply inventory.
6. Create materials for new and existing educational programs such as Finstitute, Summer Camp, Guppy Adventures and Outreach.
7. Assist WAVE Education Curator in serving as Foundation & Aquarium ambassador in schools for events such as career days and teacher training programs.
8. Maintain knowledge of the methods, materials, procedures and techniques utilized in assimilating scientific information and effectively communicating/interpreting to a broad range of audiences.
9. Communicate and maintain working relationships with educators, students, guests, staff, supervisors, other departments, and colleagues in related industries.
10. Maintain an awareness of industry related activities and trends, including subscriptions to trade publications, associations with industry colleagues.
11. General office duties.
12. Assist & take direction from Executive Director on initiatives and projects as needed.
13. Additional duties as assigned by the Education Curator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Position requires a four-year undergraduate degree in science, education or related field or equivalent experience and knowledge of zoo and aquarium industry. Must be energetic and flexible with a willingness to show patience when coordinating and executing programs. Superior public speaking skills required. Great organizational skills a must. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Database experience a plus.

The Director of the Pine Island (Donal C. O'Brien, Jr.) Audubon Sanctuary and Center must be a strategic thinker, leader, fundraiser, conservationist, educator and an entrepreneur who is able to facilitate staff, volunteers, families and community leaders to create and administer a dynamic conservation hub. The Director is responsible for all aspects of strategic planning, operating, managing and fundraising for the Sanctuary and Center, and for carrying out the mission of Audubon North Carolina and the National Audubon Society in the northeastern region of North Carolina.
The Pine Island Sanctuary and Center encompasses a 5,000-acre area along and within the Currituck Sound of North Carolina's Outer Banks. It features more than 2,000 acres of marshes and 300 acres of upland and maritime forest habitats. Pine Island is one of the last of the region's historic waterfowl hunt clubs, with a lodge dating from the early 1900s. While Audubon has owned the land and facilities for decades, after a series of generous donations, the Director will be inaugurating our full management of the sanctuary in January 2010 after the end of lease agreements with the donor's family. The program to be developed in conjunction with relevant stakeholders will likely include elements of all Audubon's core approaches to conservation - education, science, public policy, and direct habitat management.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Center Director will work collaboratively with individuals in a team-oriented atmosphere. He/she must have a passion for conservation and the natural resources of North Carolina. Minimum Bachelor's degree in biology, education, non-profit management, environmental studies, or related field required--graduate degree preferred. At least five years of exemplary leadership experience in multi-function nature centers, science museums, research centers, or field studies programs. Proven experience in budget development and management. Demonstrated fundraising ability; working knowledge of educational program design and assessment; knowledge of wildlife conservation issues and ability to articulate them and inspire participation.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is commensurate with experience and similar positions within National Audubon Society. On-site housing may be available and would be part of overall negotiated compensation package. National Audubon Society provides medical, retirement and other benefits programs comparable to similar national nonprofits.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Air Management Association (MARAMA), a regional non-profit association of state and local air pollution control agencies, seeks to hire an Environmental Engineer, Scientist, or Planner to support new projects to reduce diesel emissions in the Mid-Atlantic region and perform other duties.
This position will be funded with short-term grant funding anticipated to be available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Diesel Emissions Reduction Program.
The successful candidate should have a technical background in air pollution control, including work with diesel emissions reduction programs and the development of emissions estimates.
Responsibilities include working with member agencies to develop and recommend projects, studies, and joint/interagency efforts to advance the goals and objectives of the Mid-Atlantic Diesel Collaborative. Serves as a staff specialist and technical resource and helps coordinate voluntary clean diesel (retrofit, replacement and reduced idling) projects. Principle work includes oversight of grants and contracts issued to support diesel emissions reduction projects. Additional duties include preparation of reports concerning the status and effectiveness of projects, assisting in the assessment of diesel emissions control options and emissions data, conducting projects to improve the estimates of emissions of pollutants in the region, drafting of papers on topics related to air pollution emissions, and analysis of regulatory issues and non-regulatory incentives.
Qualifications include 2 years of experience in work related to environmental regulations, strong skills in public speaking, technical writing, quantitative methods, and office computer use, and a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline. Additional beneficial qualifications include Professional Engineer certification; a related advanced degree; expertise in diesel technology, diesel emissions reduction programs, or environmental economics issues; experience with a Local, State, or Federal environmental agency; and experience with grant and contract management.

The NBRR is located in the middle of Narragansett Bay on Prudence Island, Rhode Island, and is only accessible from the mainland by ferry or boat. This position is based on Prudence with some work to be conducted in the RI Department of Environmental Management offices in Providence, and in other locations around Narragansett Bay. This position reports to senior Reserve staff including the Education Coordinator and the Coastal Training Program (CTP) Coordinator. Duties include assisting in various components of the Reserve’s education programs and especially helping with the planning and implementation of professional development workshops for teachers and coastal decision makers, and supporting staff with event outreach and education programs for the general public.

Assistant Director
Driftwood Education Center invites you to discover our coastal classroom, where learning and fun go hand in hand. We are seeking an individual looking to break into management . . . a potential colleague to assist in the management of our education team. A one year in-training season encompasses extensive training in our programs and classes, Driftwood and Elderhostel administrative duties and the ecology and science of the southeast Georgia coastline. Position Description
The Assistant Director oversees the daily office operations of the educational program, synchronizing up to ten educators, schools, the Methodist Conference Center and Aramark food services. As our educators are the greatest resource for our program growth and improvement, each week the Assistant Director implements continuing education programs, scheduling meetings, project management and program schedules for those educators. Scheduling for both the week and the year requires an intricate combination of instructor management, booking of off-site teaching locations such as Cumberland Island National Seashore and Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, and even the ability to read a tide chart. Teaching opportunities come in many different forms, within our youth program and the Elderhostel program. Instruct day and evening programs in beach, forest, and ocean ecology in Driftwood’s indoor and outdoor “classrooms.” Lead trips to Cumberland Island and Okefenokee Swamp. Trawl inland waters for marine life and assist in the care and maintenance of reptiles, mammals, birds, salt water aquariums and touch tanks. In contrast, Elderhostel interpretation offers the opportunity to take teaching to the next level by working with a diverse spectrum of participants from vacationers to college professors. Developing, scheduling and booking Elderhostel programs allows creativity and innovation to shine. Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in ecology, experiential education or a related field is required. Applicants should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to plan, organize, and surpass expectations managing the diverse daily activities. Must be enthusiastic and demonstrate excellent teaching ability with elementary through high school students. Flexibility, a good sense of humor, passion for learning, and a willingness to work long, hard hours are essential. Minimum of 2 years experience in residential education programs.
Compensation

Description
This position will be full-time (40 hrs/wk). The successful applicant will be an employee of Northern Prairies Land Trust (NPLT). Guidance and logistical support will be provided by Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC) Wildlife Division personnel. This position was created to implement actions identified in the Nebraska Natural Legacy Plan within the Verdigris-Bazile Creek Watersheds of northeast Nebraska (the biologist may work in other nearby landscapes as opportunity and need warrants). The biologist will design, coordinate, and implement habitat conservation projects with landowners, tribal land management personnel, and on select public lands.
NPLT and NGPC staff will jointly provide supervision and guidance. The biologist will use existing programs including but not limited to USDA Farm Bill, State Wildlife Grants, Private Stewardship Grant, Partners for Fish and Wildlife program offerings to implement stewardship activities on prairie, woodland, wetland, and stream resources primarily for the benefit of at-risk species. In addition significant emphasis will be placed upon capacity building through education, outreach, research, monitoring, and inventory. This is a grant funded position and NPLT and NGPC have a proven record for fundraising and extending similar positions. Salary begins at $3,263/month plus benefits.
Northern Prairies Land Trust is a private non-profit general service land trust operating in all of Nebraska and South Dakota. The mission of the trust is to assist conservation-minded private landowners who are interested in better managing and protecting their property for future generations.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities of this position include implementation of collaborative conservation efforts between landowners, communities, governmental agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Partnerships forged will result in implementation of innovative conservation measures that protect, enhance, and restore vital natural resources in the area. Conservation techniques will include mechanical removal of woody species, prescribed fire, planned grazing, and invasive plant control. The biologist will work closely with a wide range of individuals and conservation professionals to meet conservation objectives. This position will require a self-starter with excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic. This provides and excellent opportunity to make significant contributions to the conservation of natural resources in northeast Nebraska.
Essential Duties
•Administer, coordinate, design, implement, and lead efforts to provide for stewardship of grassland, woodland, wetland, and stream habitats for the benefit of at-risk species.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, plant ecology, range management, or closely related natural resources field is necessary. (M.S. preferred) Prior experience with private lands conservation and land management is preferred. Prescribed fire training, including field experience and writing of burn plans is desired. Experience delivering Farm Bill conservation programs such as WRP, EQIP, CRP, and WHIP is preferred.

The MRSG is a group of Navy biologists, scientists, and environmental planners who have particular expertise or experience in environmental planning and regulatory compliance in the marine environment. The incumbents will prepare and review marine related documentation including endangered species and marine mammal consultation packages, Environmental Assessments (EAs)/Overseas Environmental Assessments (OEAs), Categorical Exclusions (CATEXs), mitigation and monitoring plans, and related special environmental studies or technical reports assessing the environmental impacts of proposed Navy actions involving at-sea operations, training, and testing. The incumbents selected will be expected to participate in consultations with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), coordinate projects with a multi-disciplinary team, and participate in project management for research and compliance documents.

Job Duties

* Develop an updateable hydropower project database that links FERC project data, NMFS consultation data, and project spatial data, and explore opportunities to integrate with existing NMFS project databases.
* Assist with identification and development of future tools to support HPD's watershed conservation efforts
* Update Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) Mapper tool with new data (i.e. shapefiles) and application program code to incorporate any new data into queries and display
* Maintain software, servers, and GIS database (general need for all GIS applications)
* Improve EFH Mapper to display accurate maps of all EFH and Habitat Areas of Particular Concern (HAPC) designations.
* Update EFH Mapper to be a more useful management tool for conducting EFH consultations including ensuring that it contains spatial data that is consistent in formatting across NMFS regions and Councils utilizing common shoreline boundaries and mapping projections.
* Assist in coordination and consolidation of existing digital databases on the locations of deep-sea corals within NMFS.
* Create GIS maps of deep-sea coral locations for use in the Report to Congress and to inform Regional management efforts.
* Assist in the development of spatial analyses and assessment products that integrate information on the distribution of deep-sea corals, current EFH designations, and potential interactions with fisheries.
* Collect existing renewable ocean energy project data (point & polygon) from within NMFS and other Federal agencies and create project data where gaps exist.
* Create static maps of renewable ocean energy projects for HQ and Regional use.
* Create web-based spatial analysis tool (using Google Earth) that integrates renewable ocean energy project data with Marine Protected Area, Sanctuaries, EFH, and other data.
* Be the lead (working with NOAA Coastal Services Center and others) on creating a US-wide alternative energy Multipurpose Marine Cadastre spatial analysis tool.
