Marine Evolutionary Ecology Research Technician - Charleston

Primary responsibilities stem from an NSF-funded grant on the chemical co-evolution of marine seaweed-herbivore interactions. The technician will perform a diversity of tasks, including bioassay-guided extraction of secondary metabolites, invertebrate husbandry, feeding assays, DNA extractions, PCR, DNA genotyping, database management, and basic statistics.

The ideal applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s degree, be organized, attentive to detail, able to work independently and collaboratively, and have practical experience with laboratory techniques in chemical ecology, molecular ecology, or both. This position will be based at the Department of Natural Resources, Coastal Regional Headquarters in Brunswick.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of a degree an undergraduate degree in environmental/natural science, civil engineering, public administration, land use planning, or related field AND two years of experience in natural resources management.

Completion of a master’s degree in an environmental/natural science, civil engineering, public administration, land use planning or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants that possess the following: (1) Knowledge of coastal Georgia, (2) experience in conducting field investigations, (3) experience in operating boats in and about coastal waters, (4) computer software experience (e.g., GIS, word processing, & database management) and (5) ability to operate and use GPS related equipment (e.g., handheld GPS units and marine navigation systems).
