GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties: Demonstrates leadership in training Pacific Whale Foundation staff in the most effective use of interpretation strategies and research findings in educating the public to become better environmental stewards; Shows entrepreneurial skills in offering Pacific Whale Foundation programs to a diverse range of businesses, educational institutions, government agencies and non-profit organizations to both extend the reach of our message and to help fund development of programs; Works with community leaders and educators in various venues to support the development of environmentally sound practices and a well-informed citizenry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience: The Education Director must have the academic background to develop interpretation and education programs that demonstrate creativity, compliance with a variety of standards-based assessments, awareness of current models; Minimum of M.S. in Natural Sciences. Studies in Marine Biology, Ecology, Zoology, and Environmental Science preferred and or a combination of education and life experience necessary to successfully achieve the responsibilities of this position; Familiarity with Hawaii’s marine environment and culture preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Must be able to provide leadership in the development of accurate and relevant materials for web-based and print media; Must have the inter-personal skills to lead a diverse group of individuals capable of educating a diverse public, and the entrepreneurial ability to win the recognition of a world-wide web of organizations interested in supporting the goals of the Pacific Whale Foundation; Ability to win funding from relevant sources; Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and/or weekends; Must be able to participate in regularly scheduled events like Whale Day, Earth Day, etc.; Must have strong work ethic and the ability to motivate individuals and teams to excel.

The University of California invites applications for a Policy and Outreach Coordinator for the Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO) on the Santa Cruz campus. PISCO’s interdisciplinary scientific research program focuses on questions in marine ecology and oceanography in coastal waters off the west coast of the United States. The Policy and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for communication of scientific information generated by PISCO and other research programs to a diverse audience of scientists, educational institutions, management agencies, policy makers, and the public at local, state, and national levels.
General responsibilities of this position include: developing bridges between the research group and key policymaking and management entities at local, state, and national levels, providing support for scientists, creating opportunities for exchanges, and preparing outreach products (especially through the PISCO web site) to management and decision-making processes; working to increase understanding about ocean issues and marine conservation science among relevant citizens' groups, non-governmental conservation organizations, industry groups, and other interested members of the public; engaging PISCO scientists in policy issues by staying current on marine issues at regional and national levels, communicating those issues to PISCO and other researchers, providing communication training, and assisting with the development and instruction of interdisciplinary university courses; encouraging communication and collaboration with scientists outside of the PISCO consortium; and working with counterparts at other PISCO campuses to ensure coordination and integration of policy and outreach activities across the consortium.
RANK: Academic Coordinator I, 75% time with possibility of increased percent time depending on funding. SALARY: $44,400 annually, proportionate to percentage of appointment ($33,300 at 75% time)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate or post-bachelors degree with graduate work in ecology, natural resource management or related field (or combination of education and experience in natural resource policy-related work), or equivalent experience, skill sets and knowledge. - Strong scientific background, particularly in the areas of marine ecology, marine biology and conservation science. - Substantial related experience working with state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the public on natural-resource management and policy issues (preferably marine). - Demonstrated proficiency with relevant software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat and bibliographic programs (e.g., EndNote).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Excellent writing and public presentation skills. - Good organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, evaluate and communicate scientific concepts.
- Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, and good judgment.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal training or experience communicating scientific information to diverse audiences, formulating strategic plans for multiple projects, and demonstrated experience in project management. Prior experience in writing grant proposals, web page design and content. Proficiency with HTML coding and/or other website development skills.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid license to drive in the State of California. Ability to travel overnight to attend work-related meetings and conferences. Ability to move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seeks a Fisheries Outreach Manager (FOM) for its Americas Regional Office. MSC is the world’s leading marine eco-labeling and certification program for wild fisheries. The organization aims to reverse the decline in global fish stocks, to deliver quantifiable improvements in marine conservation and help secure the livelihoods of those involved in the global fishing industry.
The Fisheries Outreach Manager (FOM) will report to and assist the Fisheries Director - Americas to deliver the MSC’s fisheries program in eastern Canada, US Atlantic and Gulf states, and the Caribbean. The FOM will be responsible for outreach, support and customer service to build and maintain participation in and support for the MSC program with key fisheries. The position will work with a broad range of interested parties including: fishermen and fishing companies, primary processors, fisheries management agencies, government representatives and partners in the NGO community.
The position promotes the MSC and our certification program to potential clients, works with fisheries to enter the program, and supports clients as needed both during the MSC fishery assessment process and following fishery certification. Additional work includes research and analysis, understanding target fisheries and commercial linkages within those fisheries, building relationships and support for use of the MSC program throughout fishery, making presentations as needed, and coordination with MSC commercial program to move products from certified fisheries into the market.
The position requires someone with many talents (see www.msc.org for the full job description and list of desired qualifications) but at a minimum you must be an excellent communicator, with demonstrated capacity for effective outreach and partnership development, be self-directed with an ability to work independently and manage multiple obligations simultaneously, and have a high desire to contribute to a sustainable future in the world’s oceans.

The Audubon South Carolina Climate Change Outreach Coordinator will represent and execute Audubon's Global Warming Campaign at the local and state level. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Recruit, mobilize and build capacity of grassroots and grasstops activists to advance positions and policies that reduce global warming pollution and increase renewable energy and conservation at the federal and, secondarily, state levels. Support and coordinate the activities of leading activists to improve their knowledge, skills, and advocacy effectiveness with respect to federal legislative campaigns.
- Work with National Audubon Society’s Washington, DC staff to organize community awareness-building events, advocacy training workshops, and district visits to congressional offices and other opinion leaders.
- Build coalitions and alliances with other state and national conservation organizations and coordinate public education and other materials.
- Conduct outreach to other constituencies of interest, including labor, education, agriculture, faith-based communities, and hunters and anglers.

- Document contacts in online advocacy database, recruit new activists to E-Activist list, and ensure necessary follow-up.

Responsible for administrative issues related to the GIS/GPS and IWeb programs. Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties.
1) Support’s RONA’s outreach to the U.S. and Canadian executive branch.
a) Maintains good working relationships with key staff in U.S. and Canadian executive agencies that work with UNEP;
b) Arranges meetings for RONA Director and other senior UNEP officials, as appropriate.

2) Supports RONA’s outreach to the U.S. Congress in order to maintain or increase U.S. financial and legislative support for UNEP:
a) Monitors developments in Congress of interest to UNEP including appropriations and authorizing legislation, committee hearings, and markups;
b) Identifies key Congressional members, committees and staff, and develops and maintains working relationships with Congressional staff;
c) Prepares briefing materials and drafts letters;
d) Provides and assists Regional Director in giving presentations to Congressional staff;
e) Arranges meetings for Regional Director and other senior UNEP officials;
f) Ensures timely follow up and delivery of materials and information;
g) Provides weekly updates to Regional Director, and to other UNEP offices as appropriate, regarding Congressional developments;
h) Maintains database for all Congressional outreach efforts;
i) Assists the Regional Director in other related tasks.3) Assists the Regional Director with RONA’s work in support of U.S. ratification of UNEP instruments:
a) Researches history of U.S. positions regarding UNEP instruments;

The Legislative Program Manager for Aquaculture works with Ocean Conservancy staff, including the Aquaculture Director and Aquaculture Policy Analyst, to support the organization’s science-based legislative advocacy efforts related to aquaculture. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors, researches, and analyzes legislative and administrative developments on aquaculture policy through attendance at congressional hearings and markups, agency meetings, public hearings, press conferences, and professional meetings and conferences. Working closely with the Aquaculture Director, other Government Affairs staff and other program staff, develops, coordinates and implements strategies to advance Ocean Conservancy’s legislative agenda for offshore aquaculture. Coordinates the development of OC legislative proposals by working with program staff to determine when new legislative authority is needed, draft testimony, legislation, and legislative amendments, and assist Congressional staff. Represents the organization to and maintains close contact with Members of Congress, their staff, and the Administration on legislative issues. Responds to requests for information and advocates for Ocean Conservancy’s positions before Congress and federal administrative agencies. Works with Ocean Conservancy staff to prepare and edit articles, reports, action alerts, press releases, and other materials to educate members, activists, the media and the public and to identify and secure new sources of funding. Performs other duties as needed, including assisting with other Ocean Conservancy legislative priorities including improving ocean stewardship, protecting marine wildlife, conserving special places and restoring sustainable fisheries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental law, policy or political science with a minimum of 3-5 years experience working with Congress and the federal government on marine, environmental, or natural resource policy issues, including aquaculture. Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate the substance of legally, scientifically and politically complex legislative and technical issues to a range of audience.
