Seeking environmentally minded individual who can research and implement new outreach efforts as well as enhance the current initiatives of our water conservation program. Primary responsibilities include designing and delivering high school lessons; delivering elementary and middle school lessons; delivering general public education presentations for schools, civic groups, and Town of Cary events; conducting water audits, and overseeing the rain barrel programs. This person will also be responsible for overseeing Cary's participation in the WaterSense Program as well as being available to speak with the media about Cary's conservation efforts.
The successful candidate will also be versed in solid waste and recycling issues for school, homeowner's associations, or other civic group presentations. The individual must have general knowledge of recycling standards and procedures and substantial knowledge of water conservation, water treatment, and wastewater treatment.
Position requires the ability to use Word, Excel, and Power Point; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; excellent analytical skills; and a valid driver's license with good driving record. A four-year degree in environmental science, natural resources, or related field is required. Work schedule will include occasional evening and weekend hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This is professional position, coordinating the stewardship, restoration science and resource management activities of the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Major activities include overseeing and implementing the reserves stewardship program. Activities will be closely coordinated with the Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge and be consistent with the goals and objectives of the DMR and the reserves management plan. This work will require project planning, supervision of staff, volunteers and contractors, research and monitoring, field work, data analyses, grant oversight, grant proposal and report writing. The work will also include close coordination and integration with the education and training, research and monitoring and administrative functions of the reserve.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The ideal candidate should have: a working knowledge of coastal ecosystems and Mississippi flora and fauna, accepted restoration practices and techniques, resource monitoring procedures, GIS and GPS applications, federal and state grant administration, the Grand Bay NERR Management Plan, DMR’s Coastal Preserves Program; as well as basic software products, and as ArcView and ArcGIS. The ideal candidate should be familiar with resource management policies and basic real estate and land acquisition practices. Knowledge of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System and the interrelationships between research/monitoring, education/training activities and the stewardship program is desired. The ideal candidate must posses excellent communication skills, the ability to handle small boats, be competent in developing complex and highly technical restoration plans, grant proposals and implementing multiple project tasks simultaneously. Excellent negotiation skills and time management abilities are required of the candidate; as well as skills in public speaking, technical writing and communicating activities to the general public, other colleagues and local decision-makers.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and five (5) years experience in the special experience defined below, two (2) years of which must have included line or functional administration or advanced supervision;
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and six (6) years experience in the special experience defined below, two (2) years of which must have included line or functional administration or advanced supervision.
SPECIAL EXPERIENCE: Employment must have been in an administrative, professional capacity in the area of work related to the functional responsibility of the bureau in which the position exists. In those bureaus where registered specialists provide the primary source of functional and technical knowledge for the planning and accomplishing the mission of the bureau, the incumbent may also be required to be registered and experienced in that profession. Work experience must have included supervising and coordinating a variety of functions.

Reporting to the Education Curator, this position will be responsible for managing the Aquarium's volunteer program. The Coordinator must be a good self-directed, independent worker. The position must possess strong skills in organization, supervision, program planning and development, evaluation techniques, coordination and staff development. Excellent skills in written and oral communication are required. The Coordinator must be able to work effectively with people and have good coaching skills.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a four-year college or university; or graduation from high school and four years of work in volunteer services enabling the applicant to acquire the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

The West Coast Ecosystem-based Management (EBM) Network is working to overcome the challenges of protecting the coastal environment by managing natural resources based on ecosystem principles. The Network is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Coordinator position. This exciting opportunity is based in the San Francisco Bay Area of California and entails frequent travel West Coast-wide.
Overview
The West Coast EBM Network, a project of the Tides Center, is an alliance of coastal and ocean resource managers and practitioners working in six geographies: San Juan Islands, Washington; Port Orford, Oregon; and Humboldt Bay, Elkhorn Slough, Morro Bay, and the Ventura River watershed, California. Through the Network, these partners share lessons learned, identify common needs, and strive to overcome the challenges of putting EBM into practice.
The Network Coordinator will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and evaluating relationships and communication vehicles necessary for a successful learning network. They will support group initiatives with technical expertise and identify relevant resources for data, information, and tools. The Coordinator will organize targeted events and tailored training opportunities for the local and regional groups involved in the six EBM projects. These events will be aimed at improving knowledge and skills capacities to accomplish EBM goals. As the Network progresses, the Coordinator will develop a long-term vision for EBM on the West Coast with common indicators to illustrate regional successes and illuminate the meaning of ecosystem management to elected officials and other decision makers at all level of government, stakeholders, and the public.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in coastal/marine policy or management, or a graduate degree in science with at least two years of policy experience. A minimum of two years of professional experience is required.

Organization and Position Description: COMPASS (COMmunication Partnership for Science and Sea) is seeking a full time staff member to be located in Monterey, California (employed by Stanford University).
COMPASS works to advance marine conservation science and ensure marine scientists have effective venues to communicate science to policymakers, managers, the media, and the public in order to raise awareness of ocean issues and inform ocean policy discussions with credible peer-reviewed science. COMPASS’ major programmatic areas include science communications efforts through media outreach, science communication training, advancement and synthesis of ocean science, federal policy outreach and regional outreach (New England, Pacific Northwest, and California). This position will lead COMPASS efforts in California.
Position Responsibilities include: lead and implement initiatives to connect ocean scientists and science to California-based ocean policy and management processes which involves relationship building with California scientists and policymakers, designing legislative luncheon briefings in Sacramento featuring California scientists, developing policy updates for California scientists and creating other mechanisms to strategically connect science to policy and the public; work with COMPASS Executive Director to lead COMPASS’ California focused strategic planning processes and coordinate California program budgets; connect and coordinate with COMPASS’ Monterey-based senior scientist and COMPASS Principal (sharing COMPASS’ work and brainstorming new ideas); work with the broader COMPASS team on other science communication initiatives; assist in grant writing and reporting relevant to California-based work; researching timely topics in marine conservation using scientific literature; staying current on relevant ocean policies (state, regional, and national, with a focus on California state policies); and developing other special projects as deemed appropriate by COMPASS Principals, Senior Scientists, and COMPASS Executive Director.
Qualifications:
It is required that candidates have (at a minimum):
• Masters Degree or higher in marine science or policy (or relevant field)
• In-depth understanding of marine ecology (or relevant scientific field)
• Familiarity with ocean policy
• Excellent writing skills
• Organization skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred qualifications include:
• Work experience regarding natural resource management (preferably focusing on marine systems, familiarity of California specific issues a plus)
• Ability to understand and evaluate relevant marine scientific (particularly ecological) concepts
• Ability to understand and evaluate national, regional and state-level marine policy and management issues
• Ability to effectively and succinctly communicate scientific information to non-scientific audiences, and policy information to scientific audiences
• Ability to communicate and coordinate with diverse audiences (government, non-governmental organizations, academia, and/or the private sector)
• Experience in - or ability to - lead research and writing projects
• Experience in – or ability to - support projects led by colleagues
• Ability to interact effectively with COMPASS staff and leaders at the geographically disperse COMPASS institutions
• Demonstrate initiative
• Approximately 5 years experience

The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is pleased to announce the search for a Program Associate to support the Science and Federal Coordination Programs with a focus on the activities of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP), a collaboration of fifteen federal agencies that provide leadership and coordination of national oceanographic research and education initiatives. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position.
As the individual responsible for the efficient administrative operations of assigned program(s), the Program Associate:
1. Organizes, attends, and reports on meetings and workshops of national and international steering committees, governing councils, and working groups associated with the ongoing programs.
2. Provides programmatic support functions such as preparing briefing materials, arranging telephone, VTC, web cam, and face-to-face
conferencing, and maintaining project databases and websites.
3. Assists in the preparation of program communications materials and responses to external requests for program information.
4. Provides support for the programmatic and/or administrative requirements of the corporation, including maintaining the program
websites and exhibit booths, preparing and distributing promotional and informational brochures, and other tasks as assigned.
To qualify, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in one of the natural sciences, and at least two years experience in providing support to an academically focused, scientific program (or equivalent science training and management experience). Familiarity with ocean science is preferred. Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for the required work experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail are required. The successful applicant will have demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with the ability to exercise good judgment and to anticipate and mitigate problems with events or products. Initiative, creativity and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team are a must. Excellent listening, note taking and research skills required. Demonstrated proficiency with all MS Office applications is necessary; knowledge of graphics and web page layout and design is preferred.

Job Title: SIHH ReStore Assistant Manager
Reports to: ReStore Manager
Job Description: Assists the Manager in certain administrative and operational functions of the SIHH ReStore. Assists the Manager in achieving operational, financial, administrative, volunteer and customer goals.
Responsibilities:
1. Opening and closing of the ReStore for scheduled daily hours. General oversight of store operations and volunteer management in coordination with other team managers.
2. Daily sales/cash register reconciliation and deposits.
3. Working closely with the SIHH Volunteer Coordinator to attract and retain volunteers by:
a. Developing a daily and weekly schedule of volunteers with assigned times and areas/tasks. Track volunteer hours monthly by volunteer type.
b. Developing and updating training program for new volunteers; personally training new volunteers or assigning a volunteer staff member to train the new volunteers.
4. Scheduling regular training for new staff members and current staff members on new policies and programs.
5. Produce daily and weekly truck schedules for pickups and deliveries and coordinate driver/helper schedules with Warehouse Manager.
6. Assist ReStore Manager in developing and implementing marketing and public relations campaigns for increasing donations and sales.
7. Maintain the Volunteer Manual and job descriptions and assignments under the direction of the ReStore Manager and the Volunteer Committee.
8. Working closely with the Warehouse and Deconstruction Managers ensure store policies and procedures are followed.
9. Oversee display and organization of showroom sales areas jointly with Warehouse Manager to ensure all items are properly priced and ticketed for sale.
10. Assist warehouse staff as required to maintain orderly flow of items in warehouse and outside yard.
11. Oversee selection and pricing of collectible items in-store and on-line.
12. Oversee and maintain daily/weekly Task assignments and records.
13. Maintain accurate mailing list of donors and customers.
14. Achieve excellent customer, donor and volunteer ratings.
Skills & Qualifications
1. Computer knowledgeable; including Microsoft Word & Excel (PowerPoint a plus), Quickbooks (including POS software). Must have willingness to learn other programs as needed.
2. Self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic. Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds.
3. Ability to handle and defuse challenging situations with tact. Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
4. Commitment to safe working environment.
5. Ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers while also having the ability to perform most tasks in the absence of staff or volunteers.
6. Ability to operate office equipment including copiers, fax machines, etc.
7. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
8. Minimum three years work experience, preferably one year in a management role.
9. Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

Principal responsibilities will include assisting in developing best use of land resources to aid in nurturing full spectrum of natural resources: waters, soil, air range, fish, wildlife, wood, minerals, recreational and wilderness. Oversee protection of native flora and fauna and develop and implement practices to protect from invasive species. Perform hands-on land maintenance work utilizing operating tools: chainsaws, bobcats, tractors, etc. for keeping perimeter roads open. Lead efforts to improve community's environmental footprint, including monitoring resource usage, developing and implementing plans to reduce the use of resources in production, optimizing usage of renewable energy .
Ideal candidate will have a BS/BA degree in forestry, or directly related field and knowledge, training or experience in the following areas: management of renewable resources, forest management operations, timber management, wild land fire science or management, utilization of forest resources, forest regulation, recreational land management, watershed management, wildlife or range habitat management, forest resource measurements and inventory, environmental education.
