Environmental Education/Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator (E/O
Coordinator)

The majority of the E/O Coordinator's time will be spent providing
educational and promotional information about the OWR&R, the
Conservation Awareness Team (CAT) and Environmental Sustainability
initiatives to the various facets of the campus community. This
includes, but is not limited to: creating brochures and fact sheets;
creating and editing the OWR&R's newsletter; overseeing the continued
development of the web page; organizing education sessions and
presenting to classes and offices on various aspects of environmental
sustainability, energy and water conservation, and waste reduction and
recycling topics; organizing special events such as Earth Day; staffing
tables at various campus and community events; writing press releases
and articles for local news outlets or other departments' publications;
overseeing the development of a yearly Recycling Monitor workshop; and
assisting with the set up and coordination of indoor recycling sites.

The E/O Coordinator will also oversee student volunteers and interns.
Create educational materials directed specifically towards UNC Charlotte
students. Work with the staff of Housing and Residence Life (H&RL) to
develop methods of distribution. Work with H&RL staff to educate
students about recycling opportunities during move-in and move-out.
Prepare and present to each Residence Hall programs on recycling and
conservation procedures during the beginning of the year. Work with RC's
and RA's to improve environmental education throughout Residence Life.

Requirements:

Environmental Campaigner - CA

TURTLE ISLAND RESTORATION NETWORK is seeking an experienced Campaigner
to implement grassroots and media campaigns to help prevent the
extinction of the Pacific leatherback sea turtle. The campaign focuses
on reforming industrial fishing practices that are threatening sea
turtles, other marine species and long-term food supply. This is a
one-year position, with the possibility of renewal.

The qualified candidate must have the skills and proven initiative to
forward the campaign through grassroots mobilization, coalition
building, media outreach, education of decision makers, conveying
scientific information to other audiences, and involving the public in
influencing domestic and international policy. The position involves
some travel, organizing and making presentations to various audiences.

Prior campaign experience is a must. Ability to work independently
required. Campaigner must be goal oriented and success will be measured
in terms of concrete, quantifiable work product.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Spearhead campaign activities, including grassroots mobilization,
petition and letter writing campaigns, and coalition building.
* Secure earned media for campaign through press releases, op eds, story
placement, etc.

follow through on tasks small and large to make campaigns successful.

related biodiversity projects and one public health camppaign: (1) The
Sea Turtle Restoration Project (STRP) http://www.seaturtles.org; works

programmatic work involves international implementation of policies that
protect sea turtles, especially ecologically sound, turtle-safe fishery
practices; promotion of sustainable economic projects that highlight the

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess at least a Masters in biology
or related field and will already have extensive experience working with marine
turtles. This position will be based either in CCC's Gainesville, Florida,
office or in San José, Costa Rica, with frequent field visits to Tortuguero,
Costa Rica; Chiriqui Beach, Panama; and wherever else the organization may
initiate research projects. The candidate must also be fluent in English and
Spanish.

Scope of work: The Scientific Director will:

* Prepare, initiate and oversee CCC's Tortuguero Leatherback and Green Turtle
Programs. This shall include the review and selection of Research Assistants;
preparation of contracts and materials for the RAs; selection and training of
the Field Director for each program, and any other activities that may be
necessary to effectively implement the research programs.

* Prepare Program Reports for the Leatherback and Green Turtle Programs. This
shall the preparation of reports in both English and Spanish; submitting the
reports to both CCC and appropriate governmental agencies in Costa Rica; and
presentation of results wherever it may be appropriate.

* Oversee the implementation of the monitoring program in Chiriqui Beach,
Panama, including providing oversight of the Research Coordinator and assisting
with the preparation of reports, grant proposals and papers related to the
project.

* Assist CCC staff with the generation of foundation, corporate and/or
governmental funding to help cover the costs associated with CCC's conservation
efforts. This shall include interacting with CCC's Board members; preparing
promotional materials; preparation of foundation grants when appropriate;
soliciting corporate donors; and seeking out any other potential sources of
financial support.

* Assist as necessary with general administration, publicity and community
outreach. The SD will travel as necessary to Tortuguero and other destinations
in the US and Latin America on CCC's behalf. Expenses for any work related
travel will be paid for by CCC.

* Oversee the management of CCC's Tortuguero and Panama databases.

* Be available to assist CCC on other relevant matters as requested by the
Executive Director.

GIS - Pakistan (Closing date: Early April)

Waste Management Analyst - NC Division of Pollution Prevention

This position is the state of North Carolina's primary technical
assistance provider to local government recycling programs, helping
communities with a wide range of issues including collection techniques,
processing, materials marketing, planning, financing, local policy
approaches, and public participation. The position also manages the
state's recycling grant program for local governments and manages key
aspects of an annual local government reporting process. Additional
duties include conducting research and training and supporting
state-level recycling policy processes.

The position requires a strong knowledge of topics ranging from solid
waste rules and law to overall leading trends in collection, processing,
and materials marketing, and general local government management. Work
requires demonstrated computer skills using web, database, and
spreadsheet programs, and experience managing large databases and
producing usable information from data sets.

Training and experience requirements include graduation from a four-year
college or university with a degree in planning, economics, public
administration or business and two years of experience in a solid waste

Dry Creek Long-Term Watershed Study - GA (Open until filled)

Dry Creek Long-Term Watershed Study (Dry Creek Study) is seeking two
research technicians for a 12 month period beginning in May 2006. The
technician will assist research staff and graduate students working on
the Dry Creek Study. The Dry Creek Study is located in southwest
Georgia on International Paper Company land. The study has
multidimensional research projects, which include forest hydrology,
water quality, and wildlife/biodiversity projects. The position will
involve intensive field work, lab chemical analysis, and data analysis
and management. This is a great opportunity for individual who is
interested in forest science research. On-site housing (including
utility) may be available at no cost. Conditional use of on-site
company vehicles is included. Starting salary is $10 per hour.

Basic Qualifications

This position will require a background in forestry, wildlife, aquatic
biology, hydrology, soil, ecology, and/or natural resources management.
Candidates who have at least two years of college education in the
listed fields, or at least 1 year of appropriate experience in the
related fields will be considered. Candidates who have completed or
near completion of B.S. degree in the listed fields or have field
research and instrumentation experience will be given strong

The Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment, & Prediction (MARMAP)
program is looking for three temporary employees to assist with the
sampling season (April-October). The job will consist of offshore
field-sampling for reef-fish (snappers, groupers, porgies, grunts, etc.)
with traps & longlines, fish dissection, & gear repair. Those hired will
spend much time at sea (+110 days scheduled). When not at sea, employee

Fire Monitoring Corps Project Leader Staff Position - North Carolina

Student Conservation Association's Mission Statement:

To build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire
lifelong stewardship of our environment and communities by engaging
young people in hands-on service to the land.

Background: Working in partnership with the Bureau of Indian Affairs
and local Tribes, SCA FIREMON teams will use FIREMON protocols, basic
forestry techniques, GPS, and GIS to complete an array of projects aimed
at protecting natural areas. A team of 1 project leader and 4 team
members will work in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Primary Responsibilities: Project Leaders will work in conjunction with
partner agencies and SCA staff to meet the goals of the project; manage
site logistics and administrative tasks; interview, select, supervise
and lead interns; and provide for their safety in the field. In
addition to their role as project leaders, they will carry out field
work; identify and collect plot data; compile and analyze FIREMON data;
present work to agency partners. Other potential responsibilities
include prescribed burning, public outreach and education, and SCA
recruiting.

Training Provided: Project Leaders will come together with SCA staff in
Boise, ID for a week-long training on technical FIREMON field skills and
SCA processes. Project Leaders will also join their teams in late
May/early June for a ten day team member training in McCall, ID.

Position involves long hours in the field working in all weather

South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve

ORGANIZATION MISSION:
South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is a 4,771 acre
protected area on the southern arm of Coos Bay in southwestern Oregon.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Interpretive Assistant will work with South Slough education program
staff to develop and expand summer interpretive opportunities offered by
the Reserve with an emphasis on weekend visitor services. The
Interpretive Assistant will assist in the delivery of estuary,
watershed, and marine education activities, as well as, providing
visitor services and delivery of programs at the Interpretive Center.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

2. Assist education staff in the development and delivery of
educational and interpretive programs offered at the South Slough
Interpretive Center and off-site at various locations. (50%)
3. Maintain equipment, aquaria, terrarium, and temporary displays
and classroom facilities.(10%)
4. Periodically provide visitor services at South Slough
Interpretive Center. (30%)
5. Develop and conduct evaluation of outreach activities delivered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful
individual who enjoys working with children and adults.
2. Interest or experience in natural resources and/or biology.
3. Familiarity with coastal environments is helpful but not
required.
4. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Willingness to work a Wednesday - Sunday schedule with
occasional flexible hours.
6. A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team.
7. A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job
completion.
8. Valid driver's license and good driving record.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or
customer service duties related to a natural area such as a park,
preserve, or research reserve (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service
Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) or
One year (3 quarters / 2 semesters) of college in any discipline.
Coursework in natural science or environmental studies is preferred.
NOTE: A combination of education and experience may substitute.

COMPENSATION: This position is a temporary position with the State of
Oregon, Department of State Lands - South Slough National Estuarine
Research Reserve and is classified as a teaching assistant. The current
rate of monthly pay for a full-time position (40 hours per week) is
$1691. This is a temporary position with the State of Oregon and has a
1,040 hour limitation.

and 5 to 10 years progressive experience in wetland/stream delineation,
preparing environmental documents, obtaining state and federal permits,

Background

Earth Force is a national nonprofit that since 1994 has empowered
hundreds of thousands of young people as environmental citizens through
the development of youth-led environmental civic action projects.
Lowcountry Earth Force, one of nine field offices across the country,
serves greater Charleston with a variety of award-winning programs and
services.

Position Overview

The Executive Director provides visionary leadership and coordinates the
delivery of Earth Force programs in Charleston, Berkeley, Colleton and
Dorchester counties. The Executive Director will also work to better
incorporate Earth Force programs in all of four of the schools districts
we work in as well as support advancement of service learning in the
Lowcountry of South Carolina. We are looking for an Executive Director
to lead with charisma, energy and drive to elevate Lowcountry Earth
Force to the next level of growth and excellence and achieve the mission
of "Engaging youth as active citizens who improve the environments and
their communities now and in the future."

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

Create and promote the vision and strategic plan for the office
Nurture a team identity and environment, respecting diverse points of
view, expanding team capabilities and facilitates and supports team
decisions
Supervise multiple program staff
Work closely with Community Board Chair to develop and facilitate the
activities of the Lowcountry Earth Force Community Board
Maintain necessary office records and assist in administrative and other
office tasks as needed

Public Relations

Develop community support for Lowcountry Earth Force and help educators
connect with needed resources (speakers, environmental and community
groups, experts, funding sources, etc.)
Raise organizations' visibility by highlighting accomplishments of Earth
Force schools, and publicizing good works
Promote and facilitate communication among Earth Force facilitators,
local environmental and community groups, and Earth Force national staff
through use of website, list-serves, newsletters and other means.
Build upon existing relationships with community partners organizations
Attend national Earth Force meetings, conference calls, and other
activities as needed.

Programming

Oversee all aspects of programming including managing any staff,
interns, or volunteers
Recruit educators to participate in Earth Force, as well as design and
implement training, and professional development seminars
Provide the support, tools, and resources Earth Force educators need to
facilitate successful completion of the program

Development

Continue to build upon donor database management system
Continue to engage Community Board members in fundraising efforts
Develop fundraising plan to include program budget, grant writing,
reporting, solicitation letters, securing in-kind donations, and
insuring grant requirements are met.
Participate in planning and implementation of Earth Force events
including fundraisers, and the annual Youth Environmental Summit.

Ideal Qualifications and experience:

At least 5 years of experience in program management and/or working with
community based or nonprofit organizations. Demonstrated successful
experience in two or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
financial management, fundraising/donor management, grant writing
marketing, community organizing, civic affairs, environmental issues,
leadership development, education reform, service learning, youth
development, and board relations.

An advanced degree in Non Profit Management, Public Administration or
Public Policy is highly desirable. Excellent communication and team
building skills is a must. Must be an entrepreneurial self-starter and
creative thinker. Ideal candidate builds trust and inspires teamwork by
creating a system of shared ownership. Computer skills must include
experience with Word, Excel, Access, and the Internet.
