The City of Falls Church, Virginia has an immediate vacancy
for an Environmental Programs Specialist. Individual selected
will be responsible for development, coordination, and promotion
of the City's residential and local government recycling programs,
as well as provision of technical assistance in recycling
to schools, multi-family dwellings, and businesses; promotion
of litter prevention and for enforcement of the City's solid
waste code; development, coordination, and promotion of watershed
education related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination
System (NPDES) outreach requirements.
*_RESPONSIBILITIES:_*
- Develops and implements recycling, litter prevention, solid
waste code enforcement & watershed education programs.
- Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates recycling, litter
prevention, and watershed education activities for all sectors,
groups, and ages of the community; coordinates the activities
of citizen volunteer groups.
- Prepares promotional materials related to recycling, litter
prevention, and watershed education for residents, schools,
businesses, and institutions.
- Makes presentations to schools, civic groups, and clubs.
- Researches and develops resources for recycling, litter
prevention, and watershed education programs.
- Represents the City on inter-jurisdictional and regional
boards and committees.
- Prepares staff reports; prepares bid specifications and
administers contracts and agreements.
- Develops grant applications; administers grants.
- Serves as staff liaison to citizen councils and task forces
and coordinates their activities.
- Receives complaints and documents violations of the solid
waste code; issues notices of violation.
- Responds to citizen questions and complaints regarding recycling,
litter prevention, solid waste code enforcement, and watershed
education.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university,
with course work in environmental studies, natural resources
management, marketing, or related topics. Knowledge of and
experience in planning developing, and promoting recycling,
litter prevention, watershed management, or other environmental
programs. Require extensive experience working with volunteers
and community groups. Demonstrated ability to communicate
ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish
and maintain working relationships with City officials, associates,
and the general public; and to prepare records and reports.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. An equivalent combination of training
and experience may be considered.

Job Description:
Perot Systems Government Services (PSGS) is seeking a part-time
GIS Technician to support our contract with the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center
(Center) in Charleston, SC. The responsibilities of this position
include GIS data development, map production and general GIS
support. The successful candidate will be part of project
teams utilizing GIS technology to help state and local governments
manage environmental resources.
The primary goal of this position is to provide GIS support
for the on-going Shoreline Data Development initiative at
the Center. The project aims to produce accurate vector shoreline
data from scanned historical shoreline maps. The main responsibility
of the successful candidate will be to perform quality control
measures on the data to ensure accuracy.
Specific duties include:
-Retrieval and review of spatial data in ArcGIS
-Performing quality control measures on the data
-Meeting with and discussing potential errors in the vectorization
with project leader
Job Requirements:
Requires a BS/BA and 1 year of experience. US Citizenship
required.
Specific Skills Required: Excellent communication and coordination

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

initial synthesis and reporting of a wide range of scientific
information and data. Training and experience in the conduct
of statistical and GIS analyses and use of the related tools

has an immediate need for at least two temporary employees
to work on various GSA-NCR tasks currently assigned to us.
These are hourly positions paying $15/hour with travel reimbursement.
No other benefits will be provided. The work will take place
almost entirely in the field, in Federal office buildings
and facilities, in Washington, D.C.
The candidates must be reliable and have their own transportation.
They must be able to walk up and down several stairs and for
most of the day, carry up to 45 pounds, and be available on
a flexible schedule. (Some nights and weekends may be required.)
Candidates must be citizens of the United States.
The candidates will be trained to calibrate and use personal
air sampling pumps to take fiber-in-air samples. The candidates
will work as a team and will be responsible for taking at
least forty 8-hour air samples per day. The work is time consuming,
but not highly technical, and will adhere to safety protocols.
The task also includes identifying sampling locations, entering
data on forms and in Microsoft Excel, and interacting with
site point of contacts.
The term of employment may range from 3 weeks to the end
of the year, depending on task assignments.

ALASKAN OBSERVERS, INC. is certified by the National Marine
Fisheries Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game
to provide observers for domestic fisheries. Persons hired
attend training in either Seattle, WA or Anchorage, AK. In
the six months following training, observers make two deployments,
each one of which is approximately 2 to 2 ½ months
in length. Observers are guaranteed subsequent deployment

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Observers gather management data for

The successful candidate will possess strong technical writing,
organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills as well
as the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently while
functioning in an environment of changing priorities and time
constraints.
Candidates possessing experience in marine mammal surveying/monitoring,
SAS, ESRI GIS, and/or EndNoteT software, marine/aquatic field
collections or monitoring, ,and familiarity with marine regulations/legislation
will have the advantage.
U.S. Navy experience, particularly with operations or training,
is also a plus.
Education: M.S. degree in Marine Biology, Wildlife
or Environmental Management, or Oceanography with emphasis
in coursework and experience related to the study of marine
mammals.

Qualifications:

natural resource economics or a closely related discipline.
(At least 10 years of natural resource management experience
may substitute for an advanced degree.)
· Experience designing and implementing market- and
ecosystem-based management tools for ecological conservation.
· Knowledge of federal and state ocean conservation
laws and regulations.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a growing
program and staff.
· Ability to use science, law, economics and advocacy
to initiate and win positive environmental change.
· Minimum ten years of experience with significant
time working with state and federal natural resource management
agencies, state legislatures, and the U.S. Congress.
· Demonstrated expertise of the biological, economic
and management issues related to major U.S. fisheries, especially
the Gulf of Mexico commercial and recreational reef fish and
shrimp fisheries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supports aspects of the South Carolina Chapter’s GIS
program, providing project management and general support
to GIS and conservation staff based in the Charleston office.
Project management tasks include managing the protected lands
database (data collection, digitizing, data entry) and collecting
and applying new data sets (such as county parcel data) that
complement the Chapter’s conservation work. Manages
and maintains conservation databases and provides technical
support in GIS or other relational database technologies to
Conservancy staff.
Work may include processing spatial and/or relational data
sets derived from cartographic and tabular source material,
performing data analysis and producing reports, providing
hardware and software support, building, maintaining and populating
data and records databases, producing maps and/or other graphic
products and reports, developing and maintaining GIS library

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The SCIBWO Coordinator will organize and coordinate IBWO
search activities across South Carolina in accordance with
the SCIBWO Working Group and its member agencies. Primary
activities include organization and implementation of strategic
IBWO searches in high priority areas within South Carolina,
such as Congaree National Park, Francis Marion Forest, and
the Lower Santee watershed. The focus of the position is on
coordinating the search effort, maintaining data quality,
and data management. The coordinator may also be responsible
for managing information related to sightings, follow-up requirements
to these sightings, managing statewide data, and other pertinent
activities related to IBWO as identified by the SCIBWO Working
Group.
This may include one or more of the following functions:
1. Recruits and coordinates volunteers
2. Assists with training of search volunteers to ensure high
quality data collection and consistency
3. Utilizes multiple search techniques and equipment; searching
will include deployment of remote cameras and ARU’s,
as well as on the ground searching for IBWO, cavities and
foraging sign.
4. Directs field crews
5. Maintains necessary equipment (GPS units, video cameras,
etc)
6. Downloads daily data collected including GPS points and
photos
7. Maintains and updates field data in a database
8. Coordinates with Cornell for use of ARU’s and remote
cameras
9. Manages spending and budget for IBWO search efforts
10. Prepare summary reports from collected data
11. Maintains a database of existing sighting information
for the state of South Carolina to include follow-ups, proper
notification protocols, and coordination with Cornell.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
1. Graduate degree in science-related field and no experience,
or the equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of
experience
2. Ability to collect, manipulate, analyze, and interpret
scientific data and prepare reports of findings
3. Ability to manage time and diverse activities under deadlines
while delivering quality results
4. Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will provide leadership, planning, organization
and direction for one of three districts that make up DNR’s
aquatic region. As the Assistant Aquatic Region Manager
of the Shoreline District this position will implement a tactical
plan that aligns with the agency and the Aquatic Program’s
strategic plan and ensure that district goals and objectives
are achieved. The incumbent actively participates in the strategic
planning, business plan development, and in the development
of policy, procedure, and guidance for the program.
An essential function of this position is to manage, negotiate,
and coordinate complex, and sensitive aquatic lands issues
with diverse interest groups that includes internal stakeholders,
citizens, businesses, real estate developers, elected officials,
local, state and federal governments, tribes and environmental
groups. This includes assessing proper use of state-owned
aquatic lands when negotiating and issuing use authorizations,
real estate, resource and commercial lease agreements, and
other contract documents on behalf of the agency.
The Assistant Aquatic Region Manager will provide leadership,
direct the work of and engage in effective performance management
of district staff. He/she will encourage and support
inclusiveness with staff to create a vision and direction
for aquatic lands stewardship. This person is responsible
for assuring appropriate and optimum use of the agency's resources
and will enhance the effectiveness of employees through the
monitoring of activities within the district.
Additionally, this position will support effective communications
with the two other Assistant Aquatic Region Managers, the
Aquatics Steward and other programs throughout the organization
and maintain the highest standard of personal/professional
and ethical conduct.
THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING

natural resource management or related field.
• Professional level experience
in aquatic land management, environmental program management,

sciences.

Marine Resources Development
Foundation's MarineLab in Key Largo, Florida, is an established,
highly successful marine education program which features snorkeling
in the seagrass, mangrove, and coral reef communities as a tool
to teach students about regional and global ecology. MarineLab
is a year round facility containing dormitories, cafeteria,
labs, classrooms and eight 26' Twin Vee boats that safely carry
our students to all snorkeling sites.
MRDF is seeking a Director of Education to oversee and implement
all aspects of its MarineLab marine science program. This position
requires an energetic, committed individual who enjoys the tropical
outdoors and ocean exposure, is willing to work some nights
and weekends, has experience in teaching and in managing staff
and customers, and has excellent communication skills.
Duties include:
. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate all instructional staff.
. Oversee staff scheduling throughout the year.
. Coordinate program scheduling with Program Coordinator.
. Teach programs in conjunction with other staff.
. Develop relationships with the school representatives accompanying
the students.
. Ensure high quality, safe programs to continue our record

. SCUBA certification, Divemaster preferred

. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
. Can-do attitude, friendly personality and sense of humor essential!
. Candidate must be in good physical condition. Working outdoors
in subtropical sun, in ocean conditions with students, requires
